I know Sylva has always been a big propenent of the highest quality protein available, but what arguments exist for spending almost double for a whey isolate?

I just stick to what my budget allows. Costco whey it is.

double the price, lawl, better find a new supplier to buy it from.
quick example
2lb of whey concentrate(vit shop brand) is 25ish bux at the store. I can get 3lbs of isolate for taht much.
isolate digest better, more bio available, less bloating, more pure etc etc

I was referencing TrueProtein. Concentrate is 6.07, Isolates range from $8.45-9.97. Sylva, it looks like you're getting isolates for ~$8.50 a pound, which is in line with this.

not sure how 6.07->8.45 is double the price but I'm bad a math

...my apologies for my sketchy math and for referencing the highest quality (also highest price) that TP sells. Now, can you speak on the matter?
From more research I've done this afternoon, whey isolate's higher bioavailability is only worth the price if the user is wanting to avoid the extra fat intake that would come along not only from a whey concentrate, but also from intaking slightly more to incur the same protein absorption that could be found with a smaller serving of whey isolate. With that in mind, I believe that I won't be spending 40-65% more only to increase bioavailability by 10%. A little extra fat in my diet does not concern me at this point.

Ok I will chime in here. So first off...its not bioavailability that makes them different. It the purity of the isolate compared to the concentrate.
BTW i am using the true protein products for comparison. Realize that most whey concentrates have a purity on average of 75% and less. True Protein just happens to carry the highest quality concentrate of 80%.
Isolate Avg. 90% protein content purity
Concentrate Avg. 80% protein content purity
Isolate per lbs gives 15 servings(30g) x 27g Protein = 405g protein
/
Concentrate per lbs gives 15 serving(30g) x 24g = 360g protein
=
Isolate gives you a 12% more protein per pound
And...
$8.45 isolate costs 39% more than $6.07 concentrate
So...
Really only about a 25% increase in price per gram of protein for isolate.
and I think the advantages of isolate, such as more bioavailable, digests better, less bloat, no lactose, etc... are worth the 25% price jump.
Plus the quality Isolates that are processed "Cold" or CFM, because these processes lack the heat, will keep intact the microfractions such as Beta-Lactoglobulin, IGF-1, Alpha Lactalbumin, etc...

good read here. I love progenex and it's quality protein but not worth the price compared.

true protein and a few other companies make all the other proteins out there so you'll probably still be getting progenix just way cheaper lol

I have been using the GNC Amp Wheybolic extreme60, i know its expensive but with my moms membership i can save 12$ on the 3lb and its been on sale too. Think it was 35-37 when i got it last.
From what i have read online it gets mixed reviews, some people love it some people say they dont see the same results that they get from cheaper whey protiens.
I dont know much about any of this, i just assumed you get what you pay for for the most part. More reading!
Thanks for the websites, will have to look at them more.

luckyvitamin.com has good prices. I always buy Optimum Nutrition unless something is crazy cheap on sale. Stick to the isolate, it's higher quality.

Just get a premium flavor, no additives, no sweetners. Premium is pre-sweetened.

1lbs was $13 for mine and it's all Isolate so yea... it's not expensive at all. I paid $45 for 2lbs at GNC and it was way fattier than I liked. I compared the nutrition facts and the one I made came out ahead in every category

What flavors do you guys like from TruePro?? Im thinking of trying out a few flavors. Lately Ive been liking fruit flavors such as lemonade from Xtreme Formulations. Its good bang for the buck.
I was actually at the shawnee supplement source location yesterday checking it out. Ive been dropping in/checking out all the competition in the Kansas area. Its interesting to say the least. I did not check out the prices, but was looking at the selection. Looks like the same brands GNC/Vit. shop sells.

Thanks for the advice on the premium mix. After i use up what i have i think i will try this out. Right now i just really like the chocolate flavor GNC. I hope the chocolate they have taste as good, but it doesnt really matter. I have been eating lots of stuff i dont like as of late.

This thread has been helpful to get me jump started into looking deeper into what protein will work best for me, and also how to save $ buying it. I'm usually just a lazy ass shopper and I go to GNC for the W.E.60. I'm going to try to read up and match or tweak that on tp.com because it does work for what I want it to do.
Buford and anyone else: I read that they do 5% discounts and you can either get your own code and give it out to others and after they buy $300 worth of product you get a free lb of protein, or you can use this one that will benefit some random in the same way: RBP224. I haven't verified it but if it helps

So, where do you all suggest purchasing from then?
Ive been a big fan of Gaspari's Whey. It's 25g of Protein per scoop, low on calories and fat, and I love the chocolate peanut butter flavor.
Is there a better place to purchase it in quantity?
I've been spending about $35 for a 5.0lbs tub... and that goes by pretty quick.
What's the suggestions?

I bought 16 lbs of their strawberry awhile back, just about to run out. But it tastes really good and mixes well. Thinking I will go with a vanilla next.

flavors with TP aren't super strong, even with premium. I usually get choco/vanilla/lemonade/key lime pie or something like that.

You have to mix them with very little water to get them strong, from what I've done.

Any recommendations or good links to read on supplementing these?
My list right now is:

Sci-fit L-glutamine

i'd really just add extra leucine as that's what you get most of the benefit from when taking BCAA.

Kre-alkalyn is quite possibly the worst supplement on the market. DO NOT BUY. Its just creatine mono mixed with an antacid (soda ash).
Just buy a creapure creatine. Or go with Creatine Nitrate if you want pumps.

Leucine is the #1 reason to take whey over other protein forms. It has the highest concentration of leucine compared to other protein sources. Leucine helps get your protein synthesis out of it refractory period(takes about 3g or pure leucine or 30g of whey). Good stuff.
