Revline Motors will be getting our very own Hunter target system "lazer" rack within the next couple of months. It will be the 811 system. I'm hunter alignment certified and worked as an alignment tech @ various shops (even Lexus) for at least 4 years.

It's been a piece of equipment I've been waiting to buy for a long time. So guys with lowered vehicles will now not get the run around when they ask where to go to get a lowered vehicle aligned.

We will not get an in-ground lift due to us leasing the building and can't cut into the foundation, but we will build a ramp system for lowered cars to go on the rack without damaging the vehicle.

The funds have been put down for the system and we hope to have it up and running in the next month or so :)

Only thing is, any suggestions on prices for alignments? Lowered vehicles with extra (aftermarket) camber adjustments will be extra, but just trying to get an idea of how much and what some of you guys out there have paid for an alignment.

Hey, i worked in an alignment bay in olathe and we charged $69.99 for standard alignments.... If the vehicles needed parts to perform the alignment we charged as needed. I think this was a fair price to pay for a basic alignment.

Sounds good. I'm mainly interested in seeing what people were getting charged for on alignments where they have aftermarket camber kits and whatnot, but this is a start to help us determine what we will charge for an alignment.

im from small town kansas, and only alignment guy in town charged fair prices, and he was very good at what he did.

he charged about 48+tax for front wheel alignment and i think about 60 for all 4.

when i moved to a bigger city, stealerships were charging about 75-80 bucks for a front wheel align and about 100 for all 4 wheels and the smaller ma and pa shops were charging about half of what the stealerships charged.

Hurst Imports, which is who I use charges $49.95 for 4 wheel alignments. If you get close to that then sign me up!

we charge 69.99 where i work for a 4 wheel alignment. installing aftermarket parts depends on what it is. simple things like a cam bolt or full contact shim (for the rear of a solid rear axle FWD car) or camber/caster bushings on ford twin i-beam, they run about 35 + part. the more complicated things are 58 + applicable parts. this includes adjustable ball joint installation, anything that needs grinding or drilling (elongating the hole on the strut, or drilling the spot welds on fords strut towers, etc.) or anything else like that.

Sweet, that's pretty solid information.

That's right about the same price as what they charged when I worked @ NTB.

knock outs, upper cams for ford trucks, etc etc. That sounds about right.

Thanks for all the good information so far. I'm interested in seeing more people who had had alignments to see how individuals have been charged.

about 5 months ago, i installed a new rack and pinion on my 96 civic coupe. while the rack and pinion was removed i tried my best to not mess up the alignment, but i was unsuccessful. after installing the rack and pinion, the alignment was way out of wack.

i proceeded to have an alignment done at a local stealership. the equipment they used was the hunter dsp400 alignment machine, i believe this is the one that uses infared, or flashing type sensors that attach to the wheels.

the alignment work was great, cost me about 50 bucks for the front wheels, and i got a printout of the before and after results. a few days after the alignment was done, i did a visual check underneath the car to make sure the rack and pinion wasnt leaking. i did not find any leaks, but i did find my steering gear boots in a bind. luckily i noticed it right then and there. i then proceeded to jack up the vehicle and "un-bind" the steering gear boots so they wouldnt rip. i dont know if this was caused by the fact that the tie rods were adjusted or what, but this is something that i watch out for now when i get alignments.

I got charged an extra $20 to adjust the camber kit + the charge of the alignment. (cant think of the price on just the alignment)

dsp400 is an old machine, ours are about 10 years old and dsp600's. not that it's a bad machine, just older.

do the world a favor, don't sell "front wheel alignments", this isn't 1970 anymore... i'm amazed companies still do them, to be honest.

Front end alignments work on trucks and whatnot where the rear is not adjustable. But with the DSP target systems, you'll get 4 wheel alignment readings no matter what.

So many places sell front end alignments because on the older 2/3 comp systems, you have to jack each axle up and comp the sensors. With a target, you're rolling and comping all 4 sensors, so you'll get readings no matter what :)

I can't wait to get our 811 system. Not the NEWEST, but one of the latest that can do bump steer, custom alignments for lowered vehicles, etc etc.

I pay $60 for a 4-wheel alignment for an M3 w/ GC suspension including camber plates. They don't charge any more with the camber plates but that might be because I have a good rapport with them... it also doesn't hurt that I live in middle-of-nowhere Sedalia where everything is cheaper than the city. $69.99 sounds fair to me, especially in the city.

I would be willing to drive the car to you, especially for the peace of mind of having it done by someone who really knows what they're doing.

just because there are no manufacturer specs doesn't mean the front wheels shouldn't be aligned to the rear. what if the axle has been tweaked slightly, you align the front to the vehicle centerline (rather than thrust angle), and the customer will come back because the steering wheel isn't straight. but that doesn't matter, i know our machine won't let us do anything but 4 wheel, i figured yours would be the same, but wasn't sure.

does the 811 have voice activation? that's a pretty damn cool feature, though the remotes work about as well.

Dester223
2008-02-14, 10:58 AM
Oh yes, I would never just sell a "front end alignment"

I think Hunter and a lot of new systems upgraded to the target systems because of this.

One downfall to it is that some people will NOT shake front ends down though. Because a vehicle does not need to be jacked up. Sometimes techs will get lazy and not shake a front end down which will cost the customer in the end.

Anywho. I'm not sure if it has voice activation. I just knew I wanted a new target system for the peace of mind that even if someone drops a target, I won't need the whole system recalibrated. I like alignments. It's like a different animal. Also with this setup, we can play with alignment specs on race cars to help get real performance without having to dump a ton of $ into mechanical parts to overcome proper setup.

i like my camber -3 degrees in the front and toe set to zero..
rear -2 to -2.5 still have to play with the toe..

$70 for four wheel alignment doesnt sound bad for a lowered car.. as long as everything is adjustable and the customer has a certain spec they want it at...

Back where im from people dished out $100 for a full custom alignment on a car that had very little clearance to the ground..

nice job. we charge 79.99 for an all wheel alignment up here and as for aftermarket installs we just go by the book for additional labor. lifetime alignments are just to get them back in the door but the places that offer it dont really "realign" the car, just move the steering wheel into the green. as for warranty, its an iffy deal (you know what im talking about) "just driving down the road and oops (hit a pithole, but they dont tell you that) my alignments off!!. another thing is when peeps modify their suspension after the fact and want you to do a warranty alignment cuz "it doesnt drive straight". hahah. have fun. i just took some classes with hunter so let me know if i can help and youll prolly be seeing more of me.

Hows it coming? Do you have a rough idea when it will be ready to go?

My hunter guy came in today and told me there's a little set back in the scissor rack itself. The alignment/target system is ready, but the rack required new turn plates to be rebuilt before it is put into service. So as of right now, I THOUGHT we were going to get it this week, but I'm out of the loop on when the scissor rack will be up and 100% functional.

Well, it was supposed to be in WEEKs ago but they are having problems with the scissor rack itself.

I'm really half tempted to just tell them to call it off. It's just taking WAY too long. They keep wanting to replace it with other parts.

So the first quote was XXX amount.
Now it's a couple thousand more.
And NOW they want around 15k more for a different rack.

I'm just getting tired of the situation. We may just take our deposit back and let it sit on the back burner. I think I'd rather just buy more 2 post racks for cars and project cars @ this time.

I need to throw mine up there to align my subframe. None of the big chains will let me do it or do it themself... they keep saying "your caster isn't adjustable", but I know that's absolute BS, and when I call them on it and tell them how to adjust it, they're like "well, that isn't covered in an alignment". It's two fucking bolts guys, they're not even hidden -- you just loosen them up and stick a pry bar in the holes honda put there to adjust the subframe. It would take all of 10 minutes -- greif!

Alignment rack is up and running.

I am not 100% sure on prices as we have been super busy lately.

I figured we will start basic "toe" adjusts at 60 dollars.

Cars with aftermarket camber kits will have to vary since there are so many different types of camber kits, where some require a LOT more work to do.

I am thinking (a typical civic/integra) with aftermarket camber kit front and rear and also a traction bar to adjust caster will look at spending around 125 to 150 MAX depending on the amount of time it will take to adjust it. Some vehicles will take a lot less time and will be defaulted back to the "basic" adjust price.

Since we are just starting out, I will be trying my best to give out additional discounts depending on what a vehicle may need. We have been doing a lot of the basic toe adjustments for 50 bucks :)

Why don't you buy a turbo already!

It'll never happen.
