I just picked up an 04 cobra (T 56) and the tranny grinds in reverse. Any reputable transmission shops?

Its junk, you should give it to me and buy another one.. lol
Give accurate performance over in Fairfax a call, I'm pretty sure he works on T56s.

Yeah I took it to them, they said I need a new clutch, but the one I have has 10k on it. Thanks for the suggestion though! Any others?

Is the trans in a cobra? There is a reverse lock out solenoid that needs to have 12v's ran to it to be able to go into reverse. Tie into the brake lights or run a toggle switch to make the lock out solenoid unlock.

I've heard about that. I can get it into reverse if I go to 5th for 5 secconds then hold it in reverse. Is this the synchro or that solenoid?

Sounds kind of like the clutch just needs to be adjusted a tad. With most cars reverse isn't really synchronized while shifting, because your tranny is at rest when you shift into it. Most of the time when reverse is grinding it is because the clutch isn't releasing all the way. I would just tighten up the pedal a bit.

I had the same issue, and it turned out my clutch just needed to be adjusted. For some reason reverse was the first gear to start giving me a problem, and then all the others started to do the same. I suppose reverse just requires more release than any of the others.
I had to buy a different quadrant and firewall adjuster. Stock quad/adjuster is a POS.
Glad I'm not the only person with T56 problems on this forum now.
EDIT: Depending on where you're at I'd take a look at it, or help you install the new quadrant/firewall if you end up going that route.
