So I've put up 9x12 ceramic subway-style tiles butting them together in a shower. I've grouted using an unsanded grout (last night) that left groutlines of about 1/16-1/8" after sponging them down.

my question is about using sealers, etc...

I'm trying to figure out of I use the penetrating sealer that I got from HD a year ago and just try to paint it on the grout (I've got a squeeze bottle with a 'brush' but its too wide to use) or if I could just use a roller to roll across the whole tiles, etc.

I'm just not quite sure because I can see in the shower I did upstairs last year that any area I sealed and got some extra on the tiles repels more water but I thought it wasn't supposed to go on ceramic tiles.

any thoughts would be appreciated as I'm trying to seal/caulk tonite for guests this weekend to use that shower (if that's even a good idea to use it after 24 hours of cure/dry time)

If the stuff worked on the grout in the other bathroom, might as well use it on this one.

I'd just get a smaller brush and pour a bit into a container and use it out of there.

The only sealer I have ever used went on with a sponge and a very light coat, so I never worried about getting it on the tile or not...

cool.

from doing some reading online, it seems like because its a penetrating sealer that its only for the grout and will haze the tiles by leaving a silicone (or similar) material behind that is a huge pita to remove.

looks like I'm going to have to bust out the model car supplies for this one... grr. at least its big tiles so it shouldn't be too bad.
