Okay, so here it goes. I love old abandoned race tracks, info, location and pics. Saw this on another board from a long time ago and thought, lets try it here. Dont care what kind of tracks they are, kart, motorcycle, dirt, drag, whatever it may be. 5 state region would be awesome. Google images, info, names, whatever you can post. Lets get creative with this one. Ill go first.....

Savannah, Mo Speedway, located in the heart of Savannah, Mo. Dirt track and I cannot figure out when it opened. Here are some pics....

Earliest pic I can find is late 60s, closed in 04.

Track layout in 97 from aerial imagery.

I cant figure out how to post the image off google maps, but here is the link (http://g.co/maps/trhv).

Sad to see it go, the bigger track was the race car track, the smaller a kart track I raced on a few times.

The other one I have is a kart track, I cannot find any old images of it, only what looks like remnants left. It was a fun race track, and again, not sure how to post a google map, if anyone can tell me, let me know. It was located at the Ray Count Fairgrounds in Richmond, Mo. This is the 2nd track I ever raced on, and we used to have a blast here. Made a lot of friends at this race track, and used to be the site of the Mo State Championship. My dad won the very last one they ever had, and still holds it over my head to this day, that he is the Mo State Champion lol. Sad to see it like this.

And GO!

How about I-70 Speedway, opened in 1969, many racing greats have raced there, and it used to hold a Craftsman truck series race in the 90s, now it sits empty. Pics:

Lawrence Dragway in Lawrence, KS. Opened in the 50's and closed up in the 80's I believe. It was out off wakarusa (aka dragstip rd) between legends dr and bob billings/15th st.

Thats awesome, didnt know there was a dragstrip in Lawrence. Good Post Josh.

And james, we spent many nights there also. It was 20 min from my house. Everyone in St. Joe that raced always went to Savannah. Pretty crazy to see it now.

Oak Hill Raceway in Henderson Texas. Never used as a car race facility, too narrow, but many current and past greats of motorcycle roadracing cut their teeth there. Kevin Schwantz, Doug Polen, Jamie James, Colin Edwards, all of the Hayden brothers, Ben Spies just to name a few. The widow of the original owner finally passed away a couple years ago and her heirs were no longer interested in running the track, and I believe the mineral rights of the land were worth more than just selling it outright. Don't know its current condition.

1) Wilmot Hill Race Course, Wilmot WI- Along with Meadowdale (mentioned earlier) Wilmot was a staple of racing in the Chicago area, and where my father was given his competition license. It was converted to a ski hill, but most of the .9mi track still exists. Some chalet style ski buildings were built on the start of the front straight.

Aerial Photos- http://wilmothills.homestead.com/aerial.html

2) Mid America Raceways, Wentzville, MO- An intimidating track just outside of St. Louis. There’s no way a track like this could be built with today’s safety standards. Currently owned by a farmer, I hear he can be sympathetic to sports car fans who ask before they enter his property.

Aerial Photos- http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...=UTF8&t=k&z=15

3) Lynndale Farms, Pewaukee WI- Just outside of Milwaukee is a suburban housing complex with grid markers painted on the pavement in front of some of the houses. The track was not used for very long before being swallowed up by development.

Aerial Photos- http://lynndalefarms.homestead.com/aerial.html

4) Lake Garnett, KS- Southwest of Kansas City is a sleepy town with a city park that hosted the top drivers of the 1960’s to include Miles/Bondurant and the factory Ford Cobra team. The track is very scary, especially when you consider big engines, bad brakes, and narrow tires. Open to drive around any day of the week.

Aerial Photos- http://www.chuckbrandt.com/lakegarnett.htm

5) Ponca City, OK- Another city park track, and perhaps the last public road race in the country (early 1980s). More developed than Garnett, to include a real pit lane which is still there and visible. Like Garnett, they had scuba teams on site to handle any drivers that made it into the water.

Wentzville was way more safer than kcir! And way better maintained! I went there before it closed. You could go there and drop sometime serious lower et's than kc.

Interesting. I did physical therapy at the building there at the end of the strip for a year. Never knew it was there.

edit: I-70 Speedway looked a little better the last time I was there; 2006 for the National Solstice/Sky Meet

They have actually had more than one. They had the infield one for a very temperary time and then had one east of the parking lot, though I don't know that they ever held events at it. I grew up there with my dad racing and was able to race there the last year it was open.

The track was mostly still there when I was at KU. It was just fenced off and police were using it as a refueling station. It was only an 1/8th mile track. It's crazing how west Lawrence has exploded. They were just starting to develop that area when I was finishing up school there.

Came to say this.

It is a very scary track to race on. There are trees everywhere so if you get off track you can do some serious damage.

I always tried not to think about it. The only places on that track that scare me are the off camber entrance to the muleshoe and coming in to the chicane. I watched a guy hit a tree over there when I was in high school and it killed him. My fondest memory of a race is there though so it's mixed feelings. Haven't raced there in I bet 8 yrs.
