okay I bought a
2002 Saturn Sl1
auto sedan
1.9 sohc
130k miles
Has an idle issue sometimes and one time brought up the code PO507 code.
P0507 Idle Air Control System RPM Higher Than Expected - DTC Code
Anybody have any specific experience with it or another car doing this?
I have read it could be as easy as a vacuum line, dirty iac, or leaky intake gasket? My wife and I have had a couple saturns in the past but never had the sohc motor.
thanks in advance!

try the coolant temp sensor. It sent my SC2 in a world of crazy idling. Replaced it, and it worked like a champ.

was it your red saturn coupe? I have also read about the coolant temp sensor as a possible cause. Is it a pretty easy fix rusty?

You can test the temp sensor with a multimeter. I wouldn't just start throwing parts on there to try and fix it. I would test the sensor, than pull the throttle body and clean the throttle plate and idle control circuit with carb cleaner. Sounds like the iacv is sticking of the throttle plate is maybe being hung open by carbon.

Yeah, you just unscrew it out of the head. IIRC, you have to resplice the new one's wiring into the stock wiring. It should take you about 15-20 minutes to do it.

did you put any sealant or anything on the threads of it when you replaced it?

okay cool and just a quick question before i swap it out, is it on the firewall side of the engine? I tried doing a quick search and didn't notice where it was at.
thanks rusty

Damn, Saturns must be notorious for this. There's a ton of videos on this.

put a new battery in it and replaced the coolant temp sensor. Seems to help the idle when it warms up and idles about 1200 now instead of closer to 2200

okay looks like it is still doing the issue. I pulled the throttle body off and cleaned all the carbon off of both sides etc and replaced the idle control valve and unplugged the battery. Then took it for a drive at 40 so it could reset itself according to the idle control valve's instructions. Didn't seem to work. I have noticed if i am driving it seems to speed up on its on (like at 35 and it creeps up to 36/37/38 etc etc. I made sure the throttle body plate etc wasnt stuck and didn't bind. Is there a screw to loosen that will reduce the idle ?
thanks
