Has anyone looked into doing this for their TV watching room?

I want to do this, there seems to be several different "kits" out there. Any opinions or suggestions on a brand to buy?

I've looked into it and a popular one on other forums seems to be the Ikea Dioder kit.
Last time I looked into it they were not selling online, but that seems to have changed.

If you are doing it to make watching TV better I would just get some 6500k LED's. The 600 LED per meter strips are brightest. Something like this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-Car-Cool-White-3528-SMD-LED-Waterproof-Flexible-Strip-12V-600-LEDs-/110792791120?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19cbc3d450) would be longer than you need (16'), but I don't have time to search for shorter ones right now.

If you are doing it because it looks cool I would pick up something like this (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=rgb+led+strip&_sacat=0&_odkw=rgb+led+strip+600&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313) and put it behind there.

I have both types in my house and they work really well.

Anything special for wiring them up?

Nope, just a 12v power supply. I have a shit load laying around from old cell phones and shit, so I just cut the ends off and wire the LED's to those. The ones I linked to can be cut every three LED's to achieve any length. And you can connect multiple strips back together by soldering wire between, or run them in parallel from the power source. I just use solid cat5 cable because I have a ton laying around.

The RGB ones come with a remote to control them. The white ones don't so you can just hook the outlet they are plugged in to up to a switch, or put a toggle switch between the 12v power supply and the lights. They also sell remote controls to turn on/off and dim the white ones on ebay for less than $10.

Here's a quick pic of mine. They do 100's of colors, flash, fade colors, dim, etc. Maybe ill get a video tomorrow. I did blue in this one to match my neon CD tower there on the right.

I moved mine to the center of the tv and thought it looked a lot cleaner.

Yeah they are about an inch in and angled outward just a bit because the edge has a slight slope so it shoots the light out from behind pretty good. You can see the LEDS from the side if you look for them, but its not too bad. The TV is only about 6" from the wall as well.

That looks good. I want to play around with mine more, I want to try moving them in a little like yours, but I'm limited because its hanging on a bracket behind for the tv stand. That and the right side has a inset area of it in the back where the cable/HDMI/etc connections are so that's out of the question.

I just taped them to the back of the tv while making adjustments, once I figured out the perfect angle I used the velcro that came with the kit. I want to pick up a 2nd kit to put on my entertainment center. Shine down on the electronics. I just need to figure out a way to connect the 2 kits to one remote control. I need to see if Ikea sells 2-1 cables for them.

The entertainment thing sounds like a good idea, I saw a picture somewhere where someone did that. I thought about that on my stand, but it would just high light all the wiring behind it probably.

You could do them under and/or behind a couch, that may be alright. Or under or over cabinets in the kitchen assuming yours don't go all the way to the ceiling. I thought of a lot of things, but I don't want to overdo it either and look like a casino.

I've got all of my wiring velcro'd together and then wrapped in wire loom, 4-5 looms going into one big on. It's a pain when I have to pull something out, but it looks a lot better and worth the pain.

Mueller got me some huge deisel loom that I used.

Took another one the other day. Moved the lights around a little, but no room to go anywhere else so this is where they are staying.
