I didn't search for this type of thread, but instead of derailing another thread I decided to make a spinoff.

Include the name, location, and why you like the bar.

Is it the food that draws you in? Is the service really good?

Post it up.

Maloney's
Shawnee (I think) ?
It's a KU bar - My cousin was the Mgr - and they have great stuffed mushrooms. Or they used to. Food was good anyway. Service too.

That's a good one. Really close to my house, but parking sucks so on busy nights I prefer to go Birdies.

It's not a great bar by any means, but their food is excellent and they ALWAYS have just ridiculous drink specials...so for a cheap ass married guy, that's whats important. :-)

Have you been to Beer Kitchen? Both places have awesome food. I think Westport is kind of under-rated IMO.

I've been meaning to go, I'm usually just there at night though.

I've kind of gone through the 'you'll get shot in westport' phase, the Plaza phase, the P&L phase, martini corner, ect and circled back around to really enjoying westport. It's probably the least convenient to get to from south OP, but I usually have a good time there.

The Foundry, McCoy's, Johnny's, Yard House, Barleys. The Velvet Dog is pretty cool too.

Don't really go out to KC bars very often though. I prefer alot of Lawrence bars

Manifesto.

edit: Buddy works there and they have some of the best drinks I have come across in my time. It's modeled after a speakeasy. Pretty cool stuff. As well, the atmosphere is hands down the best of any bar I have put foot in. It's not easy to find - it's hidden under the Rieger Hotel.

Bierstation in Waldo

This is a bar for craft beer nerds. They have a rotating selection on 21 taps, they actually send out tweets anytime there is a new beer put on tap. On Wednesday nights you can use their Tabletop Randalls to infuse other flavors into any of their beers. In addition to that they have a large selection of bottled beer, which you can have them pour on site, or you can buy them to take home. They don't even carry Bud Light. LOL

I bartend at Pizza Bar in P&L so I'm a little biased. Unlike most of the bars down there that get a bad rap, we are known as the "Westport" bar of the district. Decent food, decent beer and liquor selection, etc. Let me know in advance and I will get you and your friends a "Happy Hour" which includes:

Fri or Sat night from 8-11 (possible extension to 1am)
$2 domestic beers
$3 wells
$4 calls

Let me know!

After getting drunk and dealing with idiots all night, this place is a godsend. Wouldn't say it's my favorite, as I really don't have one, but it's up there on the list of awesome.

I'm more of a dive bar person, I tend to like Helen's JAD in north KC. Good food, good bartenders, and never packed.

Well for those of us on the south side, Kanza Hall / Fuel is a great time, especially if you like checking out the scenery. I got burned out on Fuel for about a year until the bands started showing up again. There are some flaky people in there and it's usually packed, but trust me, the scenery NEVER disappoints.

Anyone try Bier Station yet?

Kyle Bryan k
2013-04-08, 12:50 AM
^^^ a few post up it was mentioned.

I live just a few blocks north of bier station and have been there a few times. I believe it is worth checking out, some things confuse me there though.

If you look into the beer case you will see odd prices. hypothetical example, a blvd pale ale is 4.25 there or 1.75 to go, a blvd wheat is 4.00 there and 2.00 to go. Seems as though someone just started throwing out random prices on stuff. Both beers are year rounds and are the same price (normally), also that the extra cost of drinking it there was not equal.

I was there last friday and read the board with their current menu upon it. I noticed something else odd, so I decide to confirm with the cashier. I asked what the price was of the different size pours of "Green Flash", she replied $2.00 for a 4 oz pour and 4.50 for an 8 oz pour, I decided to get two 4 oz... Maybe i am cheap or perhaps I am just logical.

I personally don't think it is anything that impressive, I mean the pizza shop down the street has about 100 beers in stock, and actually get the "hard to get" stuff. I will say that I am glad the building is occupied again, I also like that it is tucked a bit more into the neighborhood than other bars in Brookside / Waldo. Unfortunately with that they close at 12 O'clock.

Pretty much. We have Malibu as opposed to Bacardi. Still hard to beat those deals anywhere in P&L.

Weds special. $3 domestic beers, $3 shots, and $3 slices. PLUS live music.

What other piano bars are in KC?

Tanner's on Wornall is a favorite. Good food and great memories. Staff are friendly as well.

Still have Blvd Coffee Ale right now. He also recommended Mother's MILF and my cousin tried that one. I had a few sips of it. Was pretty good. :)

Yardhouse is far from a bar. It's an overpriced restaurant with plenty of overpriced beers on tap.

That being said, I still enjoy it.

Never a dull moment at Brooksider with a couple buddies and/or your girl.
As much I cant stand the typical fist pumping douche bags at P&L, I do go to Angels/PBR on occasion too.

What are some good places to go in the Northland? (besides Brewtop and Arthur's)

During the week I like to hit up Cronins they have $1.50 rum and cokes its kind of a dive bar but I like the food and its not far from my place. If I go out I used to go to Dark Horse which is now closed (RIP). Velvet Dog is the spot in Martini Corner and the Union in westport if I want to turn up. My younger sister work at Aura its not a bad place I just never make it over there.

Describe this more please.

they have an old school can dispenser behind the bar.

they randomly fill it with a very wide array of beer ranging from gennesee, to busch, to new belgium, to schlitz.

each beer costs $2 - you might get something great or you might get something terrible. regardless, it's fun!

also, they randomly put pepsi in the machine. if you get a pepsi you can either get another random beer or they'll give you a pepsi and whiskey. bottom shelf, of course.

the food is damn good here as well.

In KC proper? No idea. Haven't got the chance to spend much time in that area. Somebody hit the nail on the head when they said there isn't much in the Northland.

There was a Peanut in Gladstone for a while which was about 3 blocks away from where I was living at the time. Spent soooooo much money there. Walked home plastered too many times to count. Good time.

Went to P&L one night while a buddy from school was in town, and we both thought it was kind of lame.

Flying Saucer was cool, but it was pretty much all dudes.

I guess I can't say I have a favorite.

I'm may be biased here but I'm a big fan of Kanza Hall/Red 8/Fuel/Millieu otherwise known as One Block South. I'm a host(security) there but before that I used to go out there and party. Pretty good bands coming up for Kanza if you like country and we usually have pretty good shows at Fuel for the rockers.
