So I had a local shop do a clutch install on my evo 8, because I was afraid I wouldn't make it to kc on a slipping clutch. After 10 days of them having my car, they finally get the job done. I drive from the shop to my job with no issues. However, when I go to leave on lunch, I notice my car is making the failing bearing sound (often confused with the brake squealer sound). I go get my lunch, all the while cursing the shop. I have some coworkers come out and listen while I drive the car back and forth. We determined that it is coming from underneath the car. Its sort of a "er...er...er..." sound that speeds up as vehicle speed increases. Do you think it could be the carrier bearing, or maybe the pinion bearing? The car was solid when I took it in. No noises whatsoever. I get it back and this shit starts. Ideas? I do know that from now on, you guys will get all my evo business.

What clutch did you have put in?

Did they re-surface the flywheel if you didn't replace it?

Did you re-use the throw out bearing or was a new one installed?

What fluids did they use in the tranny and t-case?

Is this an MR tranny and ACD T-Case? If so did they use the proper 6 speed tranny fluid? Did they bleed the ACD system properly?

Exedy stage 1 (awful, by the way)

Its an evo 8, so no acd.

Used redline shockproof heavy in the t case, and sychroshift in the tranny
(5 sp)

Clutch kit did come with new throwout bearing

The flywheel was resurfaced (it had some hot spots on it)

I am beginning to think that the drive shaft is bumping the exhaust (its a 3 inch Buschur TBE). When the car is cold, you can hear a "tinking" sound, but once the car is ran a few miles, the sound is gone.

Possibly or that the x-bar on the bottom of the car had washers on it to clear your aftermarket downpipe and they forgot to re-install the washers thus the downpipe is rubbing on the x-bar which will make a metal on metal sound.

Man, I just dont know. I took it back to the shop, but of course it doesn't make the noise for them. It HAS to be driveshaft related, since the sound directly corresponds with vehicle speed. No noise if I just sit and rev the car. It only happens when the car is moving, and only when the car is cool. I looked at it while it was on the lift, and everything is solid. The exhaust appears to have plenty of clearance. Nothing seems to be even close the the shaft. I am getting seriously pissed!
