Tuners,
Start the thread. What are you doing differently that is making your boost build work for you? In the tuner world, I've come across many average Joes who could easily put a local performance tuner to shame. There are many of you who surf on KCSR who await to be heard. You're the expert so let the world hear personally from you.

Hey, man....please do keep me informed!! I would love to hear about your build.

Will do! It'll be a slow but steady build. I'm reading up on what everyone is doing to try and avoid certain things that make these engines pop and looking at the statistics so I know what not to do.

Don't focus only on full load tuning. Take the time to tune in many load scenarios so your map is smooth. Nothing's worse than going WOT in 6th gear at low RPM's and getting horrible knock because your maps is setup with too drastic of a timing shift.
If you have an atmospheric bypass valve, lean out in the zero load, high rpm portion of the map so you're not running ridiculously rich.
If you're running full bypass, throw the timing pretty close to what your rpms will drop to on your next gear so you don't have a timing jump and shift knock.
GET WATER INJECTION. You won't believe the knock resistance you'll have with it. I ran 38 degrees timing with it on pump gas and never saw knock...ever.

I was going to ask a few of you guys that have experience with tuning a little bit. I'm reading about Meth injection right now as it seems a good amount of guys are going through with it and have great success with their Mazdaspeed3 or 6. I will have a 100% recirculating BPV soon since the stock one leaks boost at high RPMs.
I was thinking a decent tune since this car will be lasting me a few years, I don't want a full on race tune. Something that will utilize my modifications and also give me an edge over someone with just the Cobb AP and same mods.

definately do it. You won't regret it. I always used windshield washer fluid but noticed it would cake a little bit and I did need to clean out the filter nozzle periodically. If I had to do it again I'd have just gotten a bunch of gallons of methanol from grain valley and done a 50/50 with it and water.
The methanol really, really evaporates quickly and pulls a lot of heat out.
I also noticed that humidity didn't have nearly as much of a drain on power as it used to though I have no idea why.
The only thing is you need to make sure you get a tune specifically for the methanol. It made me run about a point richer...from 11.8 to 10.8. I had to retune to throw myself back out to 11.8. I was pretty conservative there and with methanol I probably could have gone as high as 13 with how knock resistance I seemed to be. I never monitored EGT's but I didn't do anything bleeding edge.
PS: Your torque will skyrocket with it. I had 358 lbs of torque on only 18lbs and 304 hp with boost dropping like a rock to around 12 lbs at redline.

lol great, this car is already a bit torquey. Also these cars run a bit rich from the factory so I think I'll be tuning first before adding meth into the equation just because I'd like to keep it safe more than fast.
Right now I run BP 93 and will most likely ask again on the mixture of methanol when I get to that point.

See.....this is exactly what I'm talking about. No shop tuner would stand a chance against tuners of the real world. Excellent posting Scooby24! Thanks for contributing!

I have heard once you start pushing the K16s they turn into heaters, 993TT guys ditch them once they start chasing serious power... I would like a GT28RS on the Golf but that discussion is for another forum

What meth injection systems would any of you guys recommend? Any of you DIY or are kits from Snow Performance etc. really worth the price?
I'm not pushing my car to much of a limit at this time but I still like the idea of having a bit more knock protection.

I had cooling mist and it was a great kit. I would recommend taking the time to clean the nozzle about once every 2 or 3 months because mine did show some build up from using winshield washer fluid...but if you use straight methanol and water mixtures, that shouldn't be nearly as much of a problem.
I had the standard 150 psi kit but if I had to do it again I'd spring for the extra money for the smart injection setup.

boost the shit out of it and ask questions later. always worked for me. 270 hp bone stock b16 with a cheap dollar general turbo kit. shooting for upper 450s from a bonestock 302 with a 2000 dollar turbo kit. pics will be up soon of the mustang

I got 240 out of a Ranger lol. Its not fast as fuck but it would take most civics. When you build just get ready to have a ton of problems at first. Its worth the price of admission once you get the Air/fuel ratio and all the vacuum lines figured out. Live he said boost it and see what happens.

No meth or e-85 here. Just 35-37psi 15 degrees timing up top and a solid 13.0:1 AFR... I've never been to an AWD dyno but my 3200lb car traps 145mph... I must be doing something right.... I guess my contribuition would be to get your AFR's dead dead solid where you want them and I have 0 knock on all runs... The car runs on Q16, so I'm sure I could raise the timing up to 20-22 ish and gain alot more, but I'm happy where its at... Most people report between a 10-20hp gain in 1 degree of timing at my power levels..
