Finally the movie is progressing! Read on if you want to know the writer chosen...
Perhaps this shouldn't be so much of a surprise, given that Judge Dredd is a project nestling under the wing of Danny Boyle's DNA films. But we're still ludicrously excited by the news, picked up from Twitter by MTV's Splashpage, that Alex Garland is working on a draft of the script.

Garland previously wrote The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine and 28 Months Later for Boyle, and his involvement was confirmed via tweet by British comics artist Mark "Jock" Simpson, who has worked extensively on Dredd strips for 2000AD and has been coming up with concept art for the projected new film. "Working through script visuals for Judge Dredd movie. Alex Garland writes a great script," is the full missive. He is also rumored to be the the script-writer for Halo. Danny Boyle is also rumored to be making a Solomon Grundy movie says imdb.com

JFYI Judge Dredd is about a man who is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot. And for those who don't know, Judge Dredd was adapted into a movie in the year 1995 starring the one-man-killing-machine-who-does-totally-impossible-things-in-movies SYLVESTER STALLONE!!! sadly the movie bombed and got alot of negative reviews, but no matter what they say I still like the movie.

There you go another comic book movie in the making (and sorry if you disagree with me this movie really needs a reboot).

Judge Dredd Creator Discusses Planned Remake

According to the characters creator, the upcoming movie will be much closer to the comics than the widely panned first film was...
"I have read the script by Alex Garlan (28 Days Later) and seen Jock's (The Losers) visuals," creator John Wagner confirmed to MTV News.

"While I can't go into detail about the content I can say that it's high-octane, edge of the seat stuff, and gives a far truer representation of Dredd than the first movie."

Wagner's went on to say that he's far from being a fan of the 1995 original that starred Sylvester Stallone in the title role, "I hated that plot," he said. "It was Dredd pressed through the Hollywood cliché mill, a dynastic power struggle that had little connection with the character we know from the comic."

So how confident is he that the remake will be a more successful adaptation? "Confident? I will be once I hear they've started filming!

Judge Dredd Update
According to Deadline.com, the new(hopefully good!) version of Dredd has found a director, a financier, and will be shopped at the Cannes Film Festival to try to find a distributer..oh, and it'l be 3D too..
As any fan of the Judger Dredd comic knows, Stallone's 1995 effort was ...lacking. Yeah I feel like being nice! So a lot of people were happy when it was announced that we would be seeing a new, more faithful version at some point. But the last we heard of it, the film was kinda stuck in Limbo with no one locked on board to bring it to the screen. Well now according to Mike Flemming over at Deadline thats all changed...

..Andrew Macdonald’s DNA Films has made a deal with India-based Reliance Big Entertainment to finance Judge Dredd, a 3D film that was scripted by Alex Garland, and will be directed by Pete Travis, best known for Vantage Point and Omagh. The film will be shopped at the[Cannes] festival, I hear. This was expected to go through at Fox, so breath a sigh of relief all that think that studio is Satan's office space! Apparently the time to finalize the deal was up and they let it go for whatever reason. Pete Travis has directed 2 movies(Vantage Point and Endgame) and a few tv shows. I have only seen Vantage Point and thought it was meh, but lets hope he does a good job of bringing old stony face to us in a more violent, satirical, faithful manner. Garland's best known for scripting The Beach, but he also wrote the Danny Boyle-directed scifi film Sunshine. Apparently the film will be brought in at a budget of 50 million.

Will Karl Urban Be Judge Dredd?

Bleeding Cool have received word that the Star Trek actor and fanboy favorite has been offered the role of Dredd in the upcoming reboot...
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/path2.jpgNews on this movie has been slowly leaking out. We know its going to be a lot darker, grittier and more faithful to the satirical 2000 Ad comic character than the previous Sly Stallone movie was and last week we got a glimpse at the "rumored) plot details which was described as "16 Blocks like", with Dredd and new partner Judge Andersonhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=20336#) trying to get from A to B while a riot rages in Mega City 1. Not sure I like the sound of that..anyway...

Well, Bleeding Cool now understands that Karl Urban will be offered the role of Judge Dredd in the new movie. Or at least Judge Dredd’s chin. Because one of the main provisos of the deal is that, just as in the comic, Judge Dredd will not remove his helmet. But of course that chin will now be seen in glorious three dimensions. And, contract willing, Karl Urban is of a mind to accept it.

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/judge_dredd_2012_concept_art.jpg

I hope this is on the level and Urban accepts, he may not have the exaggerated chin of Dredd, but otherwise I think he would do a great job. Urban is best known for playing Eomer in LOTR, and more recently Dr "Bones" McCoy in Star Trek. We will see him next in another CBM, < em="">, opposite Bruce Willis and a whole host of great actors. <>

Karl Urban Confirms Judge Dredd Role!

The Star Trek (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/star_trek/) star has confirmed that he'll portray the lead character in Pete Travis's upcoming movie adaptation...
The recently announced reboot will apparently be written by 28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland and will apparently be a closer adaptation of the original comics than Sylvester Stallone'shttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=20667#) 1995 outing.

http://i27.tinypic.com/28hik5l.jpg (http://tinypic.com/?ref=28hik5l)

Although he recently hinted that he'll play Judge Dresd, Urban made the announcement during an appearance on the New Zealand movie show Reel Late With Kate. "Yes, it's true, I am the law," he said, later adding that he is "thrilled to bits" with the role.

Judge Dredd is scheduled to begin filming in the autumn and will be shot in 3D.

New Details On The Judge Dredd Reboot!

Karl Urban has now been confirmed as Judge Dredd (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/judge_dredd/) by the film's producers who have also gone into more detail about the R-rated reboot's director and more...
Karl Urban has already said that he'll be playing the character in an upcoming reboot from Vantage Point director Pete Travis. However, the film's producers Andrew MacDonald and Allon Reich have now shared some more details about the movie and confirmed that Urban will indeed be Judge Dredd.

http://i27.tinypic.com/28hik5l.jpg (http://tinypic.com/?ref=28hik5l)

"The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago. Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real."

"There’s been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they’re treated seriously. We’ve cast a guy called Karl Urban to play Dredd. We’ll be shooting in Johannesburg, it’s being directed by Pete Travis, we’re shooting with the people who did District 9 – and if we get it right, Alex has a couple of ideas for other stories as well. It’s not based on any one comic, and John Wagner is involved in every decision."

Are you looking forward to this movie? Is Karl Urban the right guy for the job? Share your thoughts in the usual place! Judge Dredd is scheduled to begin filming in the autumn and will be shot in 3D.

Olivia Thirlby To Play Cassandra Anderson In Judge Dredd 3D

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/22220.jpg

The actress is set to co-star along Karl Urban in the new film version of the popular comic book character!
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/thirlby.jpgBy now, we already know that Karl Urban is set to play the iconic comic book character Judge Dredd in the upcoming 3-D movie. Also, the producers of the film confirmed that this version will be a stand alone chapter and it will have nothing to do with the previous film.

Now, Variety reports that another new cast member has been added to the film:

Thirlby, best known for playing the best friend of Ellen Page's preggo character in "Juno," will star opposite Karl Urban's Dredd ("Star Trek," "Doom") in the futuristic action pic. She will play the telepathic rookie who shadows Dredd. Upcoming Judge Dredd Reboot Gets A New Title And Synopsis!

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/22226.JPG

According to reports, they're going to give the new movie a title that seperates it from the past Judge Dredd (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/judge_dredd/) and a short synopsis has also been revealed describing it as a "neo-noir action film"...
According to a report over at IGN, the international film (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=22226#) sales company "IM Global" (who are currently promoting the upcoming reboot at the Torontohttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=22226#) International Film Fest) are referring to the $45 million project with a new title and synopsis!

http://i53.tinypic.com/11aaecz.jpg (http://tinypic.com/?ref=11aaecz)

"DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip."

Karl Urban On Playing Dredd

http://comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/22755.jpg

Urban caught up with Empire magazine to chat about stepping into the mighty boots of Mega City One's toughest Judge, Dredd..
Karl Urban is no stranger to sci fi/fantasy type roles. He made big impacts as Eomer in The Lord Of The Rings Movies (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=22755#) and more recently as Dr "Bones" McCoy in Star Trek. Now in about ten weeks Urban will head to South Africa to shoot the new Judge Dredd movie (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=22755#), simply titled: Dredd. Talking exclusively to Empire, the Kiwi actor explains how this new take will differ from the previous Stallone effort..

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/Karl-Urban-as-Judge-Dredd-535x235.jpg

"I think somewhere along the line Stallone's film was a missed opportunity. As soon as he took his helmet off the enigma was blown. Our film is going to be darker in tone, and we've got the benefit of modern filmmaking and technology to help us."

So with the darker tone, can we expect a bit more of the comics satirical edge?

"I'm hesitant to define it before it's actually been made [but] Alex Garland has done a fantastic job of writing a script that's faithful to the world Wagner created, yet completely fresh in its execution."

And how does he think he will fare going through the entire movie without taking off Dredd's iconic helmet?

"You're taught as an actor that if you take away the eyes you have to think about what you're left with - there's the voice; there's body language. How a character does what he does speaks volumes. So those are the tools I will have to employ."

Garland's plot has been described as a kind of futuristic 16 Blocks. I'm not sure I like that comparison very much! But I'm still very optimistic that Urban will knock it out of the park as old stoney face.

Karl Urban Goes Into More Detail About His Role As Judge Dredd!

http://comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/23268.jpg

The actor goes into even more detail about what the character means to him, shares his thoughts on the 1995 version and reveals more about DREDD (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/judge_dredd/)'s plot and tone including the look of the set and more...
http://earthsmightiest.com/images/users/uploads/193/DREDD.jpgOn What The Character Means To Him:

"I first started reading Judge Dredd comics when I was probably about 15, working in a pizza parlour. I really responded to the character and the world, so I'm pretty thrilled to be given the opportunity to take this one on."

On How Work On The Movie Is Going So Far:

"Things are going great - we've got a really great script and we're putting together a really fantastic cast. Pete Travis is directing and we're going to start shooting in about eight weeks in South Africa."

On The Movies Plot:

"It is kind of based on an amalgamation of stories. It's a day-in-the-life of Dredd as he gets to put his rookie - Anderson - through her paces. It's going to be hardcore."

On The 1995 Sylvester Stallone Version:

"I read an interview that Stallone had given, and by his own admission, he said that he felt that his Judge Dredd movie was a missed opportunity. It's not really for me to voice my opinion as to what didn't work in the movie for me, but I can say that our version is in no way related to that - it's a different beast."

On How Dredd Will Differ:

"It's going to be much more gritty, much more real - the environment, Mega City One, is going to feel like a real city. It's not going to feel like a Hollywood back-lot. There will be no gold cod-pieces, and we're definitely going to stay faithful to the way that the character was originally conceived and written. He'll keep helmet on."

Lionsgate Picks Up The Rights For Dredd

http://comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/24794.jpg

Lionsgate today announced that they have picked up the U.S. distribution rights for IM Global's Dredd, reported by Variety.
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/KarlUrbanDredd.jpg

Lionsgate films have picked up the distribution rights for the 2000AD comic book character Judge Dredd, titled simply Dredd as well as two other films as yet, not known.

"Dredd starts production on November 12 in Cape Town, South Africa and will be filmed in 3D. It will be directed by Pete Travis and has a budget of $45 million.

The movie takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary.

Alex Garland wrote the Dredd script based on John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's comic strip."

Lionsgate did really well with its recent Stallone release The Expendables and its looking to capitalise on this with Pete Travis' Dredd, Boaz Yakin's Safe and Simon West's Protection.

First Look At Dredd's Mega City 1

The shots from the Cape Town Civic Centre set came in from a scooper over at Bleeding Cool. As you can see, these suggest that this Mega City will be distinctly less sci fi looking than the sprawling metropolis of the Stallone movie, and indeed the comic. But its just a few close up shots of course, and far too early to tell at this point. Does seem to be going all out on that realistic take to me though!. Good or bad thing?

More shots that suggest director (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=26289#) Pete Travis' vision for Mega City One will be far less Blade Runner-esque than the sci-fi metropolis from the 2000 Ad comics. But of coursed, we don't know if these sets will be enhanced in any way in post. The pics (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=26289#) were send in by a scooper to Mania, and he also includes a brief description of a scene he saw being shot..

During the day noting is happening on set, they are shooting at night. We went to have a look and took these pictures. A colleague of mine told how his daughter is a stand-in in the movie and he described how he watched them shoot Dredd walking to a closed-off area to look at some bloody bodies. Wish he could have take a picture, but it was not allowed.

Lena Headey Lands Villain Role In Dredd

http://comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/27731.jpg

Anyone hoping for Judge Death, or even another take on The Angel gang might be disappointed as the chief villain in Dredd will be "Ma Ma" Madeline Madrigal. Sarah Connor Chronicles' Lena Headey has landed the role..
According to JudgeDreddMovieNews.com..

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/hedeydredd.jpg
It hasn't been officially announced but Lena Headey has been cast as the main villian and gang-leader, Madeline Madrigal AKA Ma-Ma. Lena began work on the film last week.Bleeding Cool (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/01/11/lena-headey-gets-chief-villain-role-in-judge-dredd-movie/) also back up the casting. Headey is a fine actress, having already made her way into fanboy's hearts starring as the title character in Terminator spinoff series The Sarah Connor Chronicles and as Queen Gorgo in 300. But what about that character of Ma Ma Madrigal? Well, as far as I know she has never appeared in the comics but then she could be a newer character, I haven't read 200AD in a while! Any of you guys heard of her? I can't find any info online.

Anyway, in the script by Alex Garland she is described as a woman in her late fifties or early sixties with a big scar through her cheek and lip. Lets assume they decided to go a little younger! What do you make of this? Interesting to have a female lead villain at any rate.

New ‘Dredd’ Set Photo Shows Full Costume and Lawmaster Bike (http://www.slashfilm.com/dredd-photo-shows-full-costume-lawmaster/)

http://bitcast-a-sm.bitgravity.com/slashfilm/wp/wp-content/images/movie-lawmaster1-550x446.jpg
We’ve seen a few photos from Dredd, including one that gave a pretty good idea of how Karl Urban would look wearing the helmet (http://www.slashfilm.com/karl-urban-judge-dredd-dredd/) that is a core part of the uniform for the title character. Now here’s a shot that shows a Judge in full costume riding one of the high-tech Lawmaster bikes used by the Judges in Mega-City One.
Dredd is shooting now in South Africa, with Pete Travis directing Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson and Lena Headey of The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Game of Thrones as Madeline Madrigal, aka Ma-Ma, aka the leader of a gang who runs one of the blocks in Mega-City One. I’m hoping for good things out of this, as the Alex Garland script has some great elements. I’m still not sold on the visuals we’ve seen, but I’m waiting to see a trailer, to get an indication of how the film will really look after all is said and done.

One good thing about this image is that, while it might just be a stuntman in the suit, the helmet looks better proportioned here than did the one in the early test shot of Karl Urban I linked above. That’s a good sign.

Possible Plot Details Revealed For Pete Travis' Dredd?

Hit the jump to read some possible story details for the upcoming 3-D reboot, Dredd. We have some new info on the characters, tone of the movie (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Wolvie09/news/?a=31697#), villain and more. Minor spoilers!
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/users/gallerypictures/26046L.png

Here are some new story details from the new Judge Dreddhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Wolvie09/news/?a=31697#) movie. Crew recently wrapped shooting at Cape Town Film Studios. Info comes from the user "protocida" on SHH Forum who was probably close to the production of the film:

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/users/gallerypictures/26045L.png In a future where Earth has become a radioactive wasteland, 98% of the Human Population is concentrated in the Mega-Cities, where the law is enforced by the Judges, a police force entitled to act as jury, judge and executioner. The best Judge there is is Dredd (Karl Urban), who operates in Mega-City 1.

One day, Dredd is assigned to train recruit Judge Andersonhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Wolvie09/news/?a=31697#) (Olivia Thirlby), who had previously failed the Judge Academy, but received a second chance for being a mutant with heightned psychic abilities that might be useful. The duo is deployed to investigate a triple homicide in the block of Peach Trees, a violent area ruled by Madeline "Ma-Ma" Madrigal (Lena Headey), a sadistic drug dealer who has put a new substance in the market: Slow-Mo, a drug that alters its user's brain's chemics, making it appear as if time is in slow-motion.

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images/users/gallerypictures/26049L.pngDredd and Anderson discover about Slow-Mo and raid one of the dealing points, capturing one of Ma-Ma's men in the process. In order to prevent him from being taken to the Judges' headquarters, where he'll surely crack under interrogation, she has her skilled team of Hackers cut Peach Trees of the grid and activate the Nuclear Attack continency program, isolating Peach Trees inside a titanium dome. Ma-Ma then puts a bounty on Dredd's and Anderson's heads: Either they die, or the dome doesn't get lifted.

Completelly stranded inside a hostile environment where everyone wants them death, Dredd and Anderson have to find a way to escape and put a stop to Ma-Ma's plans before she is able to expand her turf over the other blocks, effectively becoming Mega-City 1's number one drug dealer.

Sounds pretty good. Very noir-like story and characters. What are your thoughts?

Directed by Pete Travis, starring Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby, Dredd is set to hit theatres sometime in 2012.

"Justice Is Coming" in a poster which is apparently from the upcoming reboot set to star Karl Urban in the title role as Judge Dredd! Decide whether or not you think it's the real deal here...
2000AD.Wordpress have come across the following teaser poster which was put up on Flickr with the claim that, "my friends dad worked on the new judge dredd movie and he gave me this which is a sort of advance poster to promote the movie which wont be out until next year." It's hard to tell whether or not this is the real deal, but use the "Like" and "Dislike" buttons below to confirm or debunk its authenticity!

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

New Pic Of Karl Urban As Judge Dredd

Bleeding Cool (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/07/16/nice-new-shot-of-karl-urban-as-judge-dredd/utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+BleedingCool+%28Bleeding+Cool +Comic+News+%26+Rumors%29&utm_content=Twitter) have been sent a new snap of Urban as ol stoney face himself. It's dark so as to obscure some of the detail, but pretty cool nonetheless. Check it out..
http://media.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/dredd-shot.jpg

This looks to be an official still, which doesn't make to much sense considering the last one we received looked like THIS (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=25421). Why shade in the detail if we have seen the full helmet/costume already? Anyway, nice to have another pic, things have been fairly quiet on the Dredd front lately.

Here is a (probable) detailed plot synopsis. Mild spoiler warning..

In a future where Earth has become a radioactive wasteland, 98% of the Human Population is concentrated in the Mega-Cities, where the law is enforced by the Judges, a police force entitled to act as jury, judge and executioner. The best Judge there is is Dredd (Karl Urban), who operates in Mega-City 1.

One day, Dredd is assigned to train recruit Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), who had previously failed the Judge Academy, but received a second chance for being a mutant with heightned psychic abilities that might be useful.

Dredd and Anderson discover about Slow-Mo and raid one of the dealing points, capturing one of Ma-Ma's men in the process.

Helmets and Scowling. Could be a new detective show, or a sludgy metal band from Ohio. In this case, those two words are simply the first things that come to mind when looking at new photos from Dredd, which is the second and hopefully superior adaptation of the long-running Judge Dredd comic bookhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.slashfilm.com/dredd-photos-feature-scowling-olivia-thirlby/#) series. Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, and Lena Headey star under the direction of Pete Travis. This batch of pics shows us a bit more than we’ve previously seen of the dour and harsh world in which Dredd and his burg Mega-City One exist. Check them out after the break, and see if they make you crack a smile.
Empire (http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=31585) has the pics, some of which were scanned by fine readers at SuperHero Hype (http://www.superherohype.com/). That’s Olivia Thirlby as Judge Cassandra Anderson and Lena Headey as the villainous Ma-Ma. This is the synopsis for the film, which opens in the US on September 21, 2012, but likely much earlier in the UK.

Why Dredd Showing His Face Makes Karl Urban "Puke In His Popcorn"

Urban assures us that we are in for a comic faithful interpretation of ol stoney face. The Kiwi actor also lets us know just how passionate he is about the Judge keeping that helmet on..
We haven't heard a peep from Dredd in a while. A few official pics aside, no footage or teaser trailerhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=45799#) have been screened as was expected at some of the various cons and expos that have taken place recently. But Judge Dreddhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=45799#) himself Karl Urban is keeping interest alive.

http://media.comicbookmovie.com/images/uploads/urban.jpg

Speaking to Total Film Urban describes Pete Travis' (Vantage Point) Dredd as a "set up film. A day in the Judge's life as he puts rookie Anderson through her paces". He then goes on to talk about how the character in the comics never reveals his face, something ignored by the wretched Stallone movie (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=45799#) back in 1995.

"If anyone if familiar with Dredd, over the years there are many times when he removes his helmet but you never fully see his face. This was a construct by the creators because he represents a faceless system of justice and law."

I say this hypothetically. If I went to a movie called Judge Dredd and the lead actor at one point took of his helmet so we could see his full face I would just puke in my popcorn because that's not Dredd. He is mysterious and enigmatic. We're doing it right, it's gonna be harder, grittier and above all faithful to the comic. It's gonna kick ass."

Dredd is written by Alex Garland (Sunshine) and also stars Olivia Thirlby as Judge Andersonhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=45799#) and Game Of Thrones' Lena Heady as the villain, Madeline "Ma Ma" Madrigal.

DREDD Star Olivia Thirlby Discusses Working with Karl Urban

http://media.comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/52928.jpg The Darkest Hour actress chats about her leather costume, the tone, and working with Karl Urban in the new Judge Dredd movie.

http://i23.beon.ru/28/33/613328/12/16863112/2.jpeg

The actress never thought she'd be playing an action hero, but The Darkest Hour and her next film Dredd have her playing kick-ass female leads. She even did most her stunts for The Darkest Hour, revealing that she actually broke her foot filming a scene that involved her character being tossed around a bus.

Below is an excerpt from her interview with writer and movie critic, Josh Winning.
What was it like wearing your leather Dredd outfit?
I’m totally leather body-suited up! It’s like a proper comic-book action hero. One thing I love about Dredd is its really realistic approach, it’s a very dark and gritty approach, so my look is much less sexy femme fatale and a little bit more like a football player.

Is the new Dredd gritty to counteract Stallone’s cheesy ‘90s adap?
It doesn’t go that way only to separate itself from the former Dredd movie, it takes its air of seriousness and violence from the comics, so our idea was to really honour the world of Mega City One in the comics.

Had you seen the Stallone movie before?
You know I actually still haven’t seen it. I didn’t want to see it before shooting and I haven’t seen it since. It’s definitely on my list of movies to see, but I must admit it’s not at the very top!

What was it like working with Karl Urban?
He is definitely a dude. I loved working with him, he’s so good at what he does. We went through the script and really fleshed out the relationship between Judge Dredd and Anderson, who is a rookie. The movie really rests on the bizarre complexities of their working relationship. We wanted that to be the emotional foundation of the film. Explosions and guns and leather body-suits are great, but they get boring if there’s not a story being told.

http://media.comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/53783.jpg The latest issue of Total Film (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/www.totalfilm.com) features a new look at Karl Urban in the titular role of Judge Dredd (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/judge_dredd/), check it out. The film (http://www.powerlinks.com/api/powerlink-click-custom?id=63&keyword=film&advertiser_intext_ad_id=15&campaign_id=931) has been operating in a bit of mystery as not much marketing or promotional material has been released, as of yet. With a September release date, it's still a fair bit away but comic book movies (http://www.powerlinks.com/api/powerlink-click-custom?id=63&keyword=movies&advertiser_intext_ad_id=15&campaign_id=931) typically start their marketing campaigns fairly early. There was earlier post-production drama (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=47725) surrounding director Peter Travis but that appears to have been cleaned-up (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=47875). Hopefully, we'll get a teaser of trailer soon to see if the latest Judge Dredd movie (http://www.powerlinks.com/api/powerlink-click-custom?id=63&keyword=movie&advertiser_intext_ad_id=15&campaign_id=931) can correct the mistakes of it's predecessor.

DREDD Gets An R-Rating From The MPAA

http://media.comicbookmovie.com/images/articles/58520.jpg Fans hoping for a brutal take on Judge Dredd in the upcoming reboot can now rejoice as the MPAA have given it an R-Rating. To find out what earned it this particular classification, hit the jump for details.

Last year, DREDD producer Andrew Macdonald had this to say about director Pete Travis' take on the iconic 2000 AD character. "Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/profiles/?u=JoshWilding) of Dredd in Megacity, so we've got to get the tone right. He's not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He's going to hit people and it's going to feel real. There's been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they're treated seriously." Well, it looks like they kept their promise as the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has now classified the film with an R-Rating.

http://media.comicbookmovie.com/images/users/uploads/10300/000000008237.jpg

Many thanks to Box Office Mojo (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=mpaa&p=.htm) for the above information. The movie (http://www.powerlinks.com/api/powerlink-click-custom?id=63&keyword=movie&advertiser_intext_ad_id=15&campaign_id=931) stars Star Trek actor Karl Urban and promises to be far more faithful to the source material than the 1995 version which starred Sylvester Stallone. Controversy surrounded the film last year when it was revealed that Travis was prohibited from participating in the editing process after creative disagreements arose between producers and executives (writer Alex Garland ended up taking over these duties). Are you looking forward to the movie? Sound off with your thoughts below.

RELEASE DATE: September 21st, 2012.

Lena Headey has quite the role in the upcoming reboot (Lords of Kobol! I hate even recognizing that Stallone EVER made a Dredd movie.) of the Judge Dredd comics titled Dredd starring Karl Urban.
Lena plays the part of Madeline ‘Ma-Ma’ Madrigal.
“She’s a prostitute who then kills her pimp and takes over his drug-running business, and Ma-Ma is a bit of a man-hater.”
http://nerdbastards.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/lena-dredd-300x198.jpg (http://nerdbastards.com/?attachment_id=84206)
Dredd takes place in Mega City One, one of the few remaining quasi-civilized cities on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most well known and feared Judges. Street level officers of the law with the power to enforce and sentence offenders on the spot – lethally if necessary. Living in this violent world, ‘Ma-Ma’ does what she has to. Lena went on to describe the character:
“I think of her like an old great white shark who is just waiting for someone bigger and stronger to show up and kill her,” continues the “Game of Thrones” star. “She’s ready for it. In fact, she can’t wait for it to happen. And yet no one can get the job done. She’s an addict, so she’s dead in that way, but that last knock just hasn’t come. This big, fat, scarred shark moving through the sea and everyone flees and she’s like, ‘Will someone just have the balls to do it? Please?‘”
This NerdBastard won’t have much trouble accepting her as a bad person. I’ll just think of Cersi and take away all her families money. Although we have not seen a trailer or clip for Dredd yet, the stills are looking good. That gritty, violent look and feel that the Judge Dredd comics have always had seems to be coming through in the film.

DREDD Screened At Cannes; Described As "DIRTY HARRY Meets DISTRICT 9"

It was as packed as any screening I’ve seen in Cannes. There were people sitting on the floor in the front and the back of the room." He also goes on to claim that despite the fact the air-conditioning at the screening broke down, no one walked out. A good sign of its quality? He also calls it, "an edgy, cool film with a rocking soundtrack," and says that in comparison to other upcoming superhero movies (http://www.powerlinks.com/api/powerlink-click-custom?id=63&keyword=movies&advertiser_intext_ad_id=15&campaign_id=931) it, "appears very fresh and distinctive. However, they're apparently having no issues with selling the film at the festival, so it might just end up being one of the biggest surprises of 2012!
