He is probably best ordering the stock replacement engine for that car. I'll PM you a quote for labor to change the engine out.

I'll need to know if it's an auto or 5 speed, and what options it has or doesn't has under the hood. AC/PS. etc etc

5 Speed, AC, Power Steering, CAI, lots of engine space though. thats why we were considering the Mazdaspeed. but just let us know. we really want the turbo one. we checked and the transmission and everything is the same. so, i guess just let us know.

Labor time to R&R the engine is 14.3 hours for a long block. Our hourly labor rate is 75 so you are looking at ~ 1,000 labor to R&R the longblock. You will also have misc fluids oil/oil filter/coolant.

The last mazda engine we had that threw a rod also required more parts like an oil pan, intermediate shaft, oil cooler and an array of other parts that were broken/damaged when the rod came around and out of the engine.

There is NO difference between the mazdaspeed protege motor and the standard protege/P5 motor. Just add the mazdaspeed LSD and turbo components if you want the MSP powertrain. Honestly if you want to turbo your P5 I would just talk to the shop about installing the hiboost turbo kit for you.
