I am looking to get involved in solo/autocrossing and was just wondering what helmets you guys are using and where in town to go try some on? I have been looking at internet sites for good deals but having never worn a helmet I don't know what size or really even what features I would need.

Cycle Gear in Lenexa and Motorcycle Closeouts both have a good selection. Remember that for SCCA stuff it needs to be Snell 2000 and newer at this point. I just picked up my Snell 2005 rated helmet for 70 bucks from Cycle Gear.

I just picked up a snell 2010 off kneedraggers.com for 131 with free shipping. Sick helmets at great prices.

Make sure it is the newest Snell,
If you want to do road course, SA is required.
Generally a new, Snell will work, I had a Simpson clearence Moto cross helmet, like $69. It worked.. :)
You can use a loaner too. :)

Yeah, if you don't mind a bowling shoe on your head, you can always use a loaner from the truck. I would recommend that and then wait for the SA2010's to hit the market... whenever the hell they are actually going to come out. I know the M2010's are around already, but since I track my car too, I want to get an SA.

SA2010 doesn't come out until October. If you are only going to do autox I would recommend an SA2005 or M2005. You can get them cheaper and for autox they will be compliant to use for another 10 years. Granted the SA2010 is allowed to be used for another 15 years but you will be saving some money buying a 2005 now.

How about open face helemts, versus full faced? Thoughts and opinions? Uses in autoX vs road course?
Thanks for the insight.

full face ftw. you can never be too careful. What's your head worth? BTW if you're going to be doing with a roll cage it has to be SA certified not just M

I do both, so it's going to be SA2010 for me. Hell, I might even get it painted all neat-o.
