Up for sale is my Cosmos 95 BMW M3. I'm going to kick myself in the ass for this but I'm retiring from the Air Force later this year and have decided that I should downsize the "fleet" so that I don't risk getting into a bind later. I've owned the car for 6 years. Here is a list of some details. I'm sure I forgot something, so feel free to ask:
3.0L inline six, OBD1 (95 is the only year with this setup)
ITG foam intake, Conforti chip, Euro HFM ($1,000)
ActiveAutowerke Gen 3 High Flow exhaust ($800)
BMW OE Contour 17 x 8.5
New Hankook RS-2 245/40/17
H&R 1/4" spacers front + stud kit ($120)
Motion Motorsports aluminum underpanel ($175)
Ground control coilover 500/550 spring rates ($1,500)
Ground Control camber plates ($300)
Performance Friction brake pads ($180)
BimmerWorld reinforcement kit for rear trailing arm pockets
Cooling system upgrades (stock system is fragile in these cars, so the stock pieces were ripped out and replaced with quality components):
PWR aluminum radiator ($520)
Stewart hi-flo water pump ($190)
Stock Fan delete (replaced with Spal electric fan) - ($220)
BimmerWorld silicon hoses ($75)
Recent maintenance:
Rear trailing arm bushings
Control arms
Differential mounts
Plugs
Thermostat
New OEM Rotors
Brake fluid
Center Support Bearing
The chassis/body has 189k but I have done a LOT of upgrading and replacement of worn parts. A replacement engine was swapped in 2005 from an automatic M3. The automatic M3s shift at 5,500 rpm max unless in sport mode, so this engine has had an easy life. It dyno'd at a healthy 221 hp which is approximately 255 hp crank. Compression/leakdown results from a fews month ago:
#1 188, 10%
#2 190, 5%
#3 192, 12%
#4 192, 10%
#5 190, 9%
#6 192, 5%
Known issues are a sticking passenger door handle and occasional fuel smell on startup (lasts 5-10 minutes).
Feel free to call/text/email with any questions. 660-221-7877 or mjv325@gmail.com Sedalia

Good luck. I do warn people though that if this is going to be a daily driver, to be aware of the spring rates. It doesn't bother me but if you have a significant other who enjoys the smooth ride of the E46, she will probably complain about the stiff suspension in this car. Just consider yourself fore-warned. ;)

The "significant" other has a Porsche 944s with firehawk challenge g/c coils, her car rides harder than mine does

I haven't done any track events this year. KC BMW will be doing an event at Hallett in September. I've been going to that the last few years but I'd rather do a different track this year. It's a good time down there though. It's worth the trip to drive Hallett at least once.

Bump for the most desired m3 out there...except for maybe a 2010.lol 95 and cosmos... if it was a 5spd id be all over this! Good price too
I wish i had sold my 325 back in the spring now so i could pick this thing up. Still planning on selling mine, just have to wait til early fall (has no AC due to modding). If you still have it then i'll hit you up. Wanting a 95 before they are outrageously priced/modded

I might still have it when the weather gets colder. I have until December to sell this but I imagine selling it in the colder months would be quite a challenge. It just seems like a bad time to sell an E36 M3. There are a lot of them for sale these days. With the prices of E46 M3s going down quite a bit, I think E36 owners are moving on. I feel this car will eventually go back up in value and I would love to keep it until then...

I'm a little more motivated to sell now. After picking up the free RX-7 from my uncle, I'm limited on space! Price dropped to $8500.
ABS light is on. I'm still trying to figure that out but will sell for $8100 with the light on.
Reminder: NO TRADES.

Good thing nobody took me up on the 'as is' offer... I would have felt bad. I discovered the ABS light is on due to a $1500 part! Yikes. Hopefully the ABS light will be out this week but will still take $8,100 for it (even after the ABS is fixed).

I'd buy this car in a heartbeat if I didn't have an agreement never to sell my E30. And I can't justify two coupes right now.
This is a stellar deal on a well taken care of car. It's too bad you have to sell it.

The cooling system isn't the only problem area but I've addressed the others too, such as the center support bearing that always fails and the reinforcement plates to prevent the rear trailing arms from ripping out their pockets.

Vinyl siding does not = M3. I'd rather make my siding out of cardboard boxes than give up that car.

Priorities suck.
I was going to use the money to pay off the MS3 but now we're selling that car too since we picked up the X5. Now the money will be used on the house.
The goal is to go from 5 cars to 3, so the M3 and MS3 must go. :(

Damnit Mike.
I keep tossing around ideas about which car to get rid of to help myself reduce debt... The NSX makes more sense, but it's a flipping NSX. I got rid of my E36 M3 to buy the S2000, but....
Argh.

Crazy this is still for sale.
FWIW, I fixed the fuel smell on startup by replacing the fuel pump gasket under the rear seat. Pull the seat and check and see if that's where it's coming from.
Mike V
2010-11-17, 12:08 AM
It's not coming from the interior. That seal was replaced a couple years ago anyway. I haven't smelled fuel the last few times driving it, so maybe it cleared up. :dunno:
