What's up. I'm new to the area and it seems that everyone is coming to you guys for help, so here goes. I have a 98 civic ex with a 96 jdm b16a sir2. The motor has gsr cams and arp head studs, that's it. Ever since I had the cams installed, I can here the valves(I guess) pinging if I am in a high gear and floor it. It kinda sounds like a chain rattling inside the head. Can you help with this?

You need a valve lash adjustment, Revline is just the place to take it!!!

How much do you think that they will charge? How busy are they?

As of late, I don't know how busy they are. Pretty sure their labor rate is $75 hour... I dunno how many hours it takes to do the valve adjustment.

If you need a valve adjust, then we charge 1 hour @ 75 dollars for it.

We will need the car for around 3-4 hours due to it requiring the cylinder head to drop down below a certain temperature before we adjust the valves.

To make an appointment, you can PM me or call the shop and we'll set a day up for you.

Do you have any other recommendations for the motor. I have driven like this for about 5k miles. Thanks for the help.

That's a very broad question. There are tons of things you can do to the engine.

What you will use it for, how much $ you have to spend on it, and what is your goal.

Sorry, I meant do you think any other maintenance needs to be done due to driving around without the valve adjustment for 5k miles. Is there anything that could be hurt?

Well, if you did drive around that long with really bad valve lash, it can damage the tops of the valves and even have pre-mature camshaft wear.

So that can cause long term damage.

If it only happens in a high gear under load, it may not be valve tick -- it may be detonation. That's what it sounds like to me. Perhaps your motor is out of time or your tune is just too aggressive for the fuel / cams / ignition timing you are actually using.

Now it does it from 3k to about 5k in every gear, especially when I let off the throttle to switch gears.

Alright, then forget what I just said because that's a no load situation.
