The main question I have, whats your stance on shit like diet soda? I have heard rumors of people getting all kinds of bullshit problems from drinking it, from brain cancer to memory loss. Any one read up on this shit yet? I drink a ton of it, I try to drink pepsi one as I like the splenda taste much better then aspertame.
The other pop question being, how much of a differnce would one see going from diet soda to water?

Other then that, Why is there so much hate for prepared diet foods, Prime example, lean cuisen / jimmy dean D-Lights.
Lean cuisine doesn't seem that bad to me as far as the portions / sat fat / cal content. The jimmy dean stuff seems real good, only white egg, turkey sausage, whole wheat muffins ect, all coming in a 280 or 230 cal.

Man cant live on fruit and tuna alone lol.

i drink diet soda. All that prepared food in a box is crap though. Just make some time to cook and take food in Tupperware.

u will get sick of those breakfast sandwhiches fast. I did eat them for a little bit while i was bulking but its so much easier to just scramble up some eggs with toast. and more natural/whole food.

i usually don't drink any soda.

If you are going to drink diet soda I would recommend one made with Splenda instead of Nutrisweet. Coke Zero and Sprite Zero would be examples of this. There are several others as well.

I am sure Sylva can attest to this but there is something like over 1/3 of the population's bodies initiate an insulin response to nutrisweet the same way they would if it was actual sugar. Therefore you aren't gaining the full benefits of drinking a diet drink.

In the end though, like everything else, moderation is the key.

I have heard a lot about diet soda. I'm Type 1 Diabetic so my body doesn't really produce insulin. I would say the whole your body will react and produce insuiln thing might be true, but there isn't enough evidence to prove that. I will say that my Bloodsugar has never gone up or down from drinking diet soda. Just saying.

maybe its because i'm a chef, but i hate the idea of those preservative packed, prepackaged meals. Yea sure, they may look to be alright but there are so many questions about them: where did they get the ingredients, whats the actual nutritional of each individual food item, how many additives did they pump into it to get up to par, whats with the crazy shelf life, ect...I would much rather spend my money on real food, cook it in advanced, and freeze it to be eaten later in the week. That way you know you're getting good stuff, you can control the flavor (since the diet meals always seem to be horrible), and if you're smart about what cuts of meat you're getting you can actually save yourself a lot of money. (ex. a pork tenderloin may cost $6-9, but you can butcher it raw and get 6-10 4oz tenderloin medallions. Thats 2 per serving, 3-5 servings per whole tenderloin)

OP,

the more processed something is, the less nutritional value it has.

Amen.

As for diet Coke and soft drinks in general, they're either loaded with sugar (HFCs, definitely not good) or loaded with manmade chemical sweetners, even worse seeing that some are potentially carciongenic. Aspartame has been linked to obesity. The carbonation does do you any good either because it depletes your body of calcium.

I drink water all the time.. and if it's not water it's skim milk or a very seldom gatorade. The transition from soda to water was a little rough with being cranky and stuff but I feel a lot better just drinking more water

if you're getting headaches from too much water then you're over-hydrating. Basically the excessive water is flushing the good electrolytes out of your body. Replenish them with gatoraid or something similar.

more than likely. People lots of people all over this site or on their FB's seem to complain about it. Not sure why they stop cold turkey, could slowly ween yourself off with a little self control and not have any issues whatsoever.

If its caffeine withdrawal the headaches would only last 2 or 3 days. If they last longer than that its something else

Soda really is the devil. I didn't believe it, while I was drinking the stuff. I still sneak one in once or twice a month, but have pretty much stopped. You find it just doesnt taste as good after being away from it for awhile. Instead I drink water and the Walmart brand sugar free iced tea when I want some flavor. Always have some gatorade in the fridge too, but its mostly the water and iced tea for my liquid intake.

Since I started drinking mostly those two, I notice I feel better, don't get as tired as easily and the lbs stopped tacking on. Sure, the last part has to do with the food too, but stopping the soda can be that positive first step people search for when trying to get healthy.

Now, I just need to keep working on the exercise and food portion. :lol2:
