When are you going to start planting? I'm getting an itch real bad to go out and start planting some stuff. Does anyone know if basil and sage will regrow the from previous roots I left in the soil, or do I need to replant new seeds?

I didn't have any issues doing tomatoes last year at all.

Tomatoes aren't hard to take care of they just need more attention than the other things.

cauliflower, broccoli, pumpkins and watermelon here... I hate paying so much for cauliflower at the store. It costs wayyyyy too much and my daughter saved 400 pumpkin seeds and now has this novel idea of making money off the pumpkins... But, we are starting planting tomorrow

We have a strawberry plant, blueberry plant, lettuce, carrots, two tomato plants, banana pepper, and vegetable sprouts growing right now.
We're going to be getting a few more pepper plants here shortly. (jalapenos, poblanos, some bell peppers, maybe more)

Could be. The first year I did my garden everything grew and everything fruited like mad. Every year since then everything grows, flowers, but rarely fruits.
So this year, I am 90% herbs. Though I did plant peppers and okra.
As for mint, my mint is the heartiest shit. Comes back every year and I always have to thin it out so it doesn't take over my garden. Shit will grow to be 4ft tall.

Do you mix in new soil/manure/plant food when you're planting for the year? Your soil could be lacking a lot of nutrients if not.
Peppers like hog shit because it's got a ton of nitrogen in it. Try using some pig manure for those.

Interesting. Try using a fertilizer that is a little heavier in potassium and phosphorous than nitrogen.
(in case you don't know) There are three numbers on fertilizer that tell you the levels of the three nutrients in them.
They are:
(first number) (N) Nitrogen stimulates the growth of the green stuff, i.e. leaf growth and general plant growth.
(middle number) (P) Phosphorous stimulates the root growth, flowering and fruit set.
(last number) (K) Potassium stimulates fruit production.
Basically, nitrogen heavier fertilizers are good for early in the plants life. Phosphorous and potassium are better for when you are trying to flower and/or fruit.
A side note, be careful. You can give your plants nutrient burn from over feeding them, which can cause a plant to not fruit. We usually try to feed them every other time we water.. but it varies with the plants. Some need more food to be happy, and some plants are happy with relatively little fertilizer.
EDIT: We pot all of our plants, though. So how we feed/water may not work for you if you are planting them directly in the ground.
