It was recommended by EA in my "Fine Dining" thread awhile back and was seriously the best food I've ever eaten. Pricey though so definitely not an everyday stop.

decent food at best.

atmosphere is nice but not worth it and not the best in kc imo.

I really cant decide on just one as i have a favorite for each style of food really.

Capital Grille for steak
Kobe for sushi
The melting pot for a "fun" date

3 is about the most i can get it narrow it down to. lol

Do you not have tastebuds? I ate at that overpriced, middle-quality pile of dog shit last weekend. Was not impressed whatsoever. I get better Italian food at a place operated out of a gas station near my house, no lie.

The food is awesome, but there's something strange about a mexican restaurant that seems to be owned, operated by, and food prepared by all white people.

I didn't see a single hispanic employee last time I went.

How many times have you been there? When I went two times ago, the bun tasted old and as you said, it just fell apart. I live in Sedalia so I don't go there as much as I would like to but every other time, the food has been great. I typically get a pulled pork sandwich or the Z-Man. Their pulled pork is amazing.

For Italian, I like Cascone's in the northland. For my tastes, it's much better than Garrozzo's in Lee's Summit. If you prefer white sauce, you would love Garrozzo's though. I prefer red sauce but their white sauce is pretty damn good. I haven't been to their downtown location.

I'm hungry.

Meh, you gotta get over who is cooking it in a restaurant anymore. Hell, probably half of the top 10 italian restaurants are staffed by mexicans. Its all about the recipe.

OK Joes - gas station is better :D

J. Alexanders
McCormick and Schmicks

Great:
Bluestem is great, mainly for atmosphere/drinks/dessert. never had any of the main meals
Starkers - pricey but definitely worth it
Nara
Sullivans - "sluts" as duttbart would say - not the best impression with the gf on valentines day though O_o

I'll pass:
M&S is waaaaaaaay over priced for 'ok' food.

Have yet to try Kyoto (will be in the next few weeks), Julian (few blocks away), and possible Kobe

I go out to eat with my girlfriend every 4th and we like trying new places. I've never had a bad experience so it's hard for me to judge.
The 'great' places would be my choices as they are all great food/atmostphere and different types of food.

But srsly.. there should be a stick for restaurants/locations/phone numbers.. shouldnt be too hard to tally how many people like em..

I went to Julian this evening after arriving home from Cincinnati based on this recommendation and checking that site.

Absolutely wonderful food and great atmosphere. Wait staff was on the ball, and the chef personally presented each dish this evening to the table. Wednesday nights are apparently when they do dishes from her appearance on Top Chef: Masters, which she is on the current season. We had a 4 course prepared meal that she developed on the show for prix fix. Reasonably priced and very delicious.

Highly recommended.

I honestly thought the food was great, but then again I dnt go out much.

Atmosphere is what I liked most about it. as far as being worth it I thought it was, my ex and I only spent like $45 which is maybe $10 more than we would spend eating just about any place else. Only other 2 choices would be Gojo's or Zardas.

I don't go out to eat much. If I want good food I stay at home and make it myself since I like to cook.

Roscoe's BBQ is #1 on my list of barbeque joints - and I'd rather eat Q than anything else. I'd love to know what you all think of my list:

I have not ate at that many places in KC, and am not usually a fan of the chains, but probably Fogo De Chao or Ruth's Chris. If I am going out, I want something I can't/won't do at home, and that includes make a dozen different types of meat at one sitting and searing steaks at 1800 degrees.

Forgot about Longboards. Conrad's in Liberty is pretty good too.

I really liked the Tacos at Port Fonda food truck. Not what you would call authentic, but they were damn tasty.

Besides that, pineapple martinis at J. Gilberts and BBQ at Oklahoma Joes.

Blue Nile. Definitely a bit more on the Exotic side. Ethiopian food. Your taste buds will not be disappointed. They just opened up a new location in south overland park but I like the rivermarket location.

I really enjoy Kyoto and M&S Grille. I'm also gonna put it out there that Gordon Biersche's Kobe burger is WAY too good...

How many places you worked? I havent known anyone who worked at a place that wasnt grossed out by what goes on behind the scenes.

I am going to update mine, though it changes with what mood I am in. I will go with La Bodega. We ate at the one in Leawood about 2 weeks ago. Some of the better food we have had in KC. Very reasonable pricing too.

Rye isn't bad either. Kind of a home food restaurant by a James Beard award winner

I love Rye, their brunch is my fav in KC. The GM of the place used to be at Grand Street Cafe often on Monday's when I'd go there for Martini Monday.
