Im really hoping hydrogen becomes viable. The energy density is much closer to gasoline, it can be compressed and moved as a fluid and can be as safely stored as gasoline. The big obstacle right now is producing it, creating it from water takes a lot of energy so we make it from natural gas at the moment.
