I'll agree that there's as much or, more likely, even more automotive enthusiasm then 10-15 years ago.

People these days just use FB, IG, or the like to organize, buy/sell, etc.

In fact, there's a couple of local FB pages that I'm on that organize cars and coffee meets, parking garage meets, etc. Multiple times monthly.
