Default Scion FRS First Drive Kansas City

My friend who works at Scion/Toyota told me about this event Scion is having. You can get to drive the Scion FRS on a course. Check out the link to register and for more info. By the way it's free!

https://frskansas.eventbrite.com/

Also, if you can mention Cam sent you, that'll be great.

I've been signed up for a while. I meant to post this on here last night but apparently got sidetracked. The cars are auto and the course looks to be slow based on watching YouTube videos, but it should still be fun.

I might have to sing up for this. I've wanted to drive one of these for a while now.

to a point I would agree with you if you put all your money in power mods and trying to make a street car or drag car then a WRX would perform much at a much higher level than a brz/frs but I would be willing to bet that mod for mod dollar for dollar or basically in the same class on a track or autox course you could get a brz/frs to blow the doors off of a WRX. don't get me wrong I have my stg.2 STi and love the "power" but on an Autox track my STi feels so sluggish and heavy in comparison to the miatas and s2ks that the brz/frs will essintially be in competition with. but only time will tell it is only the first year of production and the WRX is being redesigned as we speak so who knows what will happen.

Just got back from this event - Got 2 laps - The cars are 6 speed autos, and you can activate the paddle shifters, though they kinda suck.

The chassis is amazing, light a very nimble - direction changes seemingly are ahead of the driver. Really shined on the Auto cross course at the PDC.

I dont like:

The auto transmission
The engine is gutless: Read, the paper numbers bely how gutless it really is.

The cars are outfitted with TRD springs, and Exhaust system.

All in all, a good time, I wouldnt give 25K for one honestly.

NachO, I think I spoke with you at the event. I was in the blue shorts. Nice talking with you.

My gripe about the car is the manual paddle shifter technology. It seemed as if the transmission was lagging changing gears as I was shifting with the paddles. However, the driving position and interior layout/amenities all flows with a true driver's car. I even managed to get the car tail happy with the traction control (We weren't allowed to disengage TC...liability concerns).

I loved the black one with the RPF1's! Definitely worth my drive from Overland Park.

Right on. I should have asked about KCSR memberships. I did like the RPF1's on the body style, the black one looked good, but that car in white is IT.

I had issues hitting the paddle when I was feeding the wheel on the sharp right hander toward the end, my hand would flick the Cruise control lever and the up shift paddle.

I ran one lap in Manual mode, and had the same complaint, at the limit it's a soft, almost squishy shift, not firm. When using "Drive" the car shifts way to early.

Maybe, not so good to get out of the STi and into an FRS - lol, I did touch 100 or so a few times on the way home...

Those paddle shifters kicked my ass. During the first run, I hit the wipers when trying to upshift. For the 2nd run, I still used 'manual' mode, but shifted with the backwards +- shifter on the console. Did you guys turn off the traction control?

The power dropoff after the 1-2 shift was pretty bad. Hopefully the manual is geared better than that.

Otherwise, I was very impressed with the handling and how it felt inside. With at least 50 hp more, I could drive that.

All in all I would buy this for an everyday around town vehicle the drive was great and was able to get two laps in with Jon B. Here is a link to my first drive in it on the track.
