Pretty sure it was the 70s actually during the 3 Mile Island incident. Still that's a bit after WWII

Hugh Jackman Arrives On " Yukon" Set Of THE WOLVERINE

The small town of Picton, south-west of Sydney, has been covered in fake snow to ensure that it resembles a town in the Yukon, for Hugh Jackman's The Wolverine.

The other day I was informed by my source that Hugh Jackman's character Wolverine/Logan will be headed into town to buy camping gear. As you can see in the set photos below an old hardware shop in Picton has been converted into a hiking/camping shop. Also, a bar will be featured in the movie, that is why you will see a mural in of a moose promoting "Ed's Bar."

Why is this important? What does it mean? Well a savvy CBM user pointed out that this could be scenes emulating the beginning of Frank Miller's "Japanese Saga" in "Wolverine #1." In that version of the tale Wolverine/Logan is seen in the Canadian Rockies pursuing a man-eating grizzly bear. During the eventual confrontation Wolverine notices that the bear has an arrow lodged in it's back. A closer examination reveals that the tip of the arrow had traces of poison and is the cause of the bear erratic behavior.

Wolverine then seeks out the hunter that poisoned the bear. He picks up his scent from the bear's cave and follows it all the way to the local pub, "Josie's Bar 'N' Grill." Wolverine identifies the hunter and when approached a one-sided fight encures.

New Set Reports & Scene Details For THE WOLVERINE

More set reports have surfaced from yesterday's Picton filming session for The Wolverine sequel, which involve something possibly iconic and rather scenic. Check it out after the jump!

As yesterday's shoot involved a bushy Hugh Jackman and a Hardware store bound in a small snow-covered Canadian town, some scenes were apparently filmed at the Picton set that onlookers were unable to see. In fact, according to Spotlight Report, it's what they could hear that was rather more interesting.

“After a break we saw the crew preparing some night shots, with the action happening in tiny alley next to the same hardware store, where we could hear Hugh screaming, while huge spotlight was placed with a crane illuminating the alley in the night and while some fake rain was introduced in the shot.”

“In addition we were told by an insider, that the last scene Hugh Jackman did, despite the cold temperatures at the location, was a very dramatic shot with cold rain in a small alley (possibly explains the iconic screaming heard) and that scene might be at the beginning of the film, before Wolverine traveling to Japan to learn the Samurai’s way.”

The sequence likely involves the "group of hunters" that were filmed yesterday loading their pick-up trucks with bags and rifles. Alluded to in earlier reports, the scenes may pay homage to Frank Miller's "Japanese Saga," which the film's loosely based on. That also involved Logan pursuing a vicious grizzly bear. What do you think?

Hugh Jackman Confirms That THE WOLVERINE Will Be A "Standalone" Movie

Hugh Jackman comments on the decision not to label the upcoming film as a sequel and shares his thoughts on not overloading The Wolverine with too many mutants (a problem which plagued X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

"We've deliberately not called it Wolverine 2 because we want it to be placed and feel like a standalone picture," Hugh Jackman told Total Film in a recent interview (via The Geek Files). "With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it's going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic." This will come as good news to fans who are STILL seething over the portrayal of characters like Deadpool and Emma Frost in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Jackman went on to also assure fans that the same problem won't plague The Wolverine. "The approach to character means we won't be overloaded with mutants and teams and the like, so it'll be more character-based. I think in many ways it will feel like a completely different X-Men film."

As for how the idea for the Japan set storyline came about, Jackman says, "[We] went to Christopher McQuarrie, who was involved in X-Men and The Usual Suspects. He's a brilliant writer and he came up with a concept that was just phenomenal. I rang Jeffrey [Katzenberg (Dreamworks Animation CEO)] and he went 'Great, now you have a good idea, just go for it.' I'm just really glad it's happening. For a while it's felt like a rocky ride. I think it's the best idea we've had, the strongest script we've had and that now we really have an opportunity to make something really great." He jokingly added, "I've been waiting for it so long now. I think half the material in my one-man show is about the wait for The Wolverine!"

First Plot Synopsis For THE WOLVERINE Revealed

The official Facebook page for 20th Century Fox's next Wolverine film has been updated with an official (though brief) plot summary, giving us a better idea of the story for the anticipated "stand-alone" movie. Check it out after the jump.

20th Century Fox's upcoming film The Wolverine, which sees Hugh Jackman reprising his role as the most famous X-Man, is currently filming in Australia. Recently, a Facebook page for the James Mangold-directed movie (inspired by Frank Miller's Japanese saga) was launched, and among the things included was the first official plot synopsis for the film. It's not very revealing, but check it out below:

Quote:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

First Look At Hugh Jackman On The Japanese Set Of THE WOLVERINE

Photographers were finally able to snap a few pictures of Hugh Jackman on the Tokyo set of James Mangold's The Wolverine. Hit the jump to find out what type of scene the actor was filming at the Zojoji Temple.

According to reports that I have translated, the scene being filmed at the Buddhist temple, was a funeral. A grand funeral no less. Today was the last day of filming at the temple, and the crew is expected to head to Hiroshima next.

First Look At Rila [frick]ushima As Yukio In THE WOLVERINE

Hit the jump to get your first look at the model turned actress dressed as Yukio, standing next to Logan (Hugh Jackman), in James Mangold's The Wolverine.

Another photo has surfaced from yesterday's filming of The Wolverine, that took place at the Zojoji Temple. This time it features our first look at Rila in her Yukio costume, and with an unexpected coloring of red in her hair.

Rila has the honor of playing, in my opinion, the best role in the film. Yukio is a blood-thirsty assassin that is ordered to kill Logan/Wolverine, but soon develops a crush on him when she witnesses his exceptional killing prowess. She is one of the two love interests in Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's "Japanese Saga," with Mariko being the other.

Mariko is frightened by Logan's brutality, while Yukio smiles with glee as Wolverine slices though his enemies. The two love interests represent paths that Logan must choose. With Yukio the path is easy, he is already the man/animal that she loves. The more savage he becomes, the more excited she becomes. However the path to Mariko's heart may be more difficult, but it will lead Logan on a journey of self-control and honor, which deep down is what he truly wants.

First Look At ‘Mariko Yashida’ On THE WOLVERINE Set In Japan; Hugh Jackman Returns

At a new shooting location in Japan, Hugh Jackman has been spotted once again, this time filming scenes alongside the Japanese model/actress behind Mariko Yashida, Silver Samurai's half-sister.

After filming scenes involving a funeral yesterday at a Buddhist temple in Japan, The Wolverine production has now moved to the [frick]uyama Station in Hiroshima. In photos via various onlookers, the star Hugh Jackman is seen once again sporting the funeral garb from yesterday. However, this time he's alongside model/actress Tao Okamoto, who's playing Silver Samura's half-sister, Mariko Yashida. While nothing too significant, check it out!

Olympic Silver Medalist Joins The Cast Of THE WOLVERINE

Multiple eyewitnesses have reported seeing Naoya Ogawa on the set of Hugh Jackman's The Wolverine. He holds a record of seven medals at the World Judo Championships and is a two-time National Wrestling Alliance world heavyweight champion.

Apparently Naoya Ogawa has joined the cast of James Mangold's The Wolverine. Multiple eyewitnesses have seen him on set filming a scene that involves Hugh Jackman's character, Logan/Wolverine, chasing Naoya through the streets. Since the film is about Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's "Japanese Saga," and the main villains have already been cast, I would assume Naoya Ogawa is playing a member of The Hand. In the comic book Logan/Wolverine is left in the streets after losing a fight and The Hand try to kill him. Of course this doesn't go very well for The Hand.

Google Translated

9nun tweeted - "But I've seen too different dimension where Naoya Ogawa and Hugh Jackman are fighting shooting MEN Wolverine -!!! X. What is something!!!! Logan is chasing a man of large physique completely stupid (laughs). I spoke to Mr. Naoya Ogawa and! "Good luck" shooting (laughs)."

LUCYUKARI posted "Arrived at [frick]uyama Station, Naoya Ogawa'm there, or even X-MEN Hey relationship he? Cho, Naoya Ogawa seems'm now in [frick]uyama Station! What was hustle hustle!"

Will "The Jean Grey School For Higher Learning" Feature In THE WOLVERINE?

Spotted in a leaked set photo from The Wolverine, it appears as if "The Jean Grey School For Higher Learning" will play a role in the upcoming prequel. Coincidence or proof that the film will have a connection to Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: Days Of Future Past? Check it out! Josh Wilding - 9/9/2012

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was an epic disappointment. Between the fact that they butchered the origin story of the character and threw in a bunch of mutant cameos which still haunt the nightmares of many a comic book lover ("Deadpool"...) it was not the solo movie that Wolverine deserved. Well, James Mangold's take on the character may just make up for that. A standalone film, it looks set to take Logan to Japan, while classic bad guys such as Viper and Silver Samurai all look set to be introduced. However, The Wolverine may not quite be as "standalone" as we originally thought. The Geek Files have come across the following set photo which seemingly reveals that "The Jean Grey School For Higher Learning" will somehow feature in the film. It could of course be a random easter egg or simple coincidence, but it's not hard to imagine Logan renaming and reopening the school following the deaths of Jean Grey, Charles Xavier and Cyclops in X-Men: The Last Stand.

@mang0ld where does your Wolverine fit into the existing Fox X-Men time line? #NerdsNeedAnswers

James Mangold @mang0ld
@DJTHiS I can't answer you now nor could I answer before, but after everything is over I can answer, and that, in itself may be an answer.

5 Sep 12
The above Tweet from director James Mangold also seems to indicate that The Wolverine may not be a straightforward prequel. Following Hugh Jackman's cameo appearance in X-Men: First Class, it's definitely possible that the film will somehow be connected to Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: Days Of Future Past. It wouldn't be at all surprising if the film isn't set before the events of the original trilogy. What if it takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand? Perhaps Wolverine heads to Japan and later returns to America, opening the school? We'll just have to wait and see. Be sure to sound off with your thoughts and theories in the usual place!

UPDATE: It actually appears as if the "JG" logo is a left over piece of set from the production of The Great Gatsby as you can see from the trailer screengrab below. Thanks to @Marvel_Freshman for the heads up.

First Look At Svetlana Khodchenkova As ‘VIPER’ On THE WOLVERINE Set

Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova has finally been spotted costumed, in outdated photos, as Madame Hydra, better known as the villainous Viper in Fox's The Wolverine. Check them out!

While the majority of filming is complete, the first photos of Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova on the set of Fox's X-Men: Origins followup, The Wolverine, have surfaced online via HughJackMania. After Total Recall actress Jessica Biel had to turn down the role, Khodchenkova's inclusion in the Hugh Jackman-starrer had yet to be confirmed. But thanks to a heads up via StarkIndistries.Ru, the actress is now seen sporting her ‘Viper’ garb, surrounded by armed apparent villains, at an unknown filming location. Hit the images below to enlarge!

THE WOLVERINE: First Glimpse Of Silver Samurai & The Claws Come Out

Check out a new picture from the set of The Wolverine that gives us our first look at the back of the Silver Samurai costume. Also Logan flashes his claws for the first time.

Korean American actor Will Yun Lee (Elektra & Hawaii Five-0) was finally spotted on the set of The Wolverine. He will be playing the main villain in the film, Kenuichio Harada, aka The Silver Samurai. A mutant that is dressed head-to-toe in silver armor. He has the ability to charge his swords with an electrical current, and they can slice through any substance... except for adamantium of course!

Besides our first look at the Silver Samurai, we also get to see Wolverine's claws for the first time as Hugh Jackman's stunt double is suspended from wires for this particular scene. I'm told the scene involves a group of ninjas attacking him, but once the claws come out they hightail it out of there.

Ninjas Spotted On The Set Of James Mangold's THE WOLVERINE

Other than the official image released last month, we haven't seen a whole lot from the James Mangold-directed film. Mostly, it's all set photos and blurry shots. That continues today too, as some new pics surfaced online featuring a ninja with a samurai sword. Check it out...

With the filming for The Wolverine wrapping up in a couple of weeks, it seems like we will see a lot more official stuff from the film. On October 29th, there will be a live chat (at 1PM PST) with director James Mangold and Hugh Jackman, where they will also show a behind-the-scenes footage. Who knows, we might see something else too. Right now, they are shooting the film in Sydney, and thanks to The Daily Telegraph, here are some new set photos featuring a sword-wielding ninja on top of the snowy roof top. Check it out:

"Once the cameras started rolling about 20 men dressed as black ninjas wielding samurai swords raced across the set. They waved their weapons around and at one point a ninja riding on a motorcycle sped straight through the middle of the scene."

"The ninjas were even scouring the snowy roof tops of one building."
Directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto, Svetlana Khodchenkova and Rila [frick]ushima, The Wolverine is set to hit theatres on July 26, 2013.

James Mangold's THE WOLVERINE To Be Set After ALL X-MEN Films

Previously believed to be a prequel to the X-Men trilogy, the director of The Wolverine, James Mangold himself has confirmed that the newest X-Men spin-off film actually takes place AFTER all of the previous films! Details after the jump...

Within the pages of the latest Empire Magazine, director James Mangold has confirmed that his upcoming film -- The Wolverine -- takes place after all of the previous X-Men films, including The Last Stand. As we saw in the final film, Logan was forced to murder Jean Grey because she could not control the Phoenix's power, Professor Xavier and Scott Summers were believed to be deceased, and the team had disbanded. With rumors of some of the original cast returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past, it remains to be seen whether or not this film will tie-in to that storyline. Below are comments from James Mangold himself on the timeline placement.

"Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all. Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him."

"That’s something that for me was very important, that I land in a very specific place in his timeline.I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it. The ideas of immortality reign very heavily in this story and the burden of immortality weighs heavily on Logan. For me that’s such an interesting part of Logan’s character that is nearly impossible to explore if you have a kind of league or team movie."
