Default Ford Announces Baby Bronco Will Be Based On The Focus

Thread Spli: http://www.kcsr.org/showthread.php?t...ht=Baby+Bronco

The rugged SUV will share components with the next-generation Escape.

Ford’s shift to SUV and pickup-only model range in the United States will bring a brand new rugged small utility vehicle to the market. It’s currently being referred to as the baby Bronco, and a new report indicates it will be based on the platform that underpins the new generation Focus.

Basically, that architecture is what the MQB is to Volkswagen – a smart, modular platform, which will be used for many new models from the Blue Oval from multiple segments. It will also underpin the next-generation Escape SUV, as well as the aforementioned baby Bronco, which will feature “off-road positioning and imagery” and will be slightly more expensive, as Hau Thai-Tang, executive vice president of product development and purchasing, explained speaking at an investor conference in New York.

Expected to debut sometime next year or in 2020, the new vehicle will come with a design inspired by Ford’s classic mid-1960s Bronco off-roader. It’s important to note that this is not the body-on-frame Bronco revival planned for 2020, but a smaller model sharing most of its technologies and, likely, its powertrain options with the next-gen Escape. These include mostly four-cylinder turbocharged motors.

Another crossover-style wagon and hatchback will be positioned below the baby Bronco. It’s called the Focus Active and features crossover-inspired plastic body details and raised suspension, in the same vein as the Subaru Outback. It will share a number of components from the suspension and body construction with the baby Bronco.
The Focus Active will be the only version of the fourth-generation Focus to be offered in the United States. Europe also gets a traditional hatchback and wagon, as well as plush Vignale and sporty ST-Line variants. ST and hybrid flagship RS models are planned for the future, but not much is known about them at the moment.

I see Ford is doing everything they can to reduce their market share.

Ford's 'Baby Bronco' to use Focus Active's FWD/AWD platform

Automaker is cutting platforms from nine to five, trying to save $25.5B

Ford's chief of product development and purchasing, Hau Thai-Tang, spoke to investor representatives recently at the 2018 J.P. Morgan Auto Conference in New York. Hau told the audience that Ford is working to "evolve" the One Ford plan devised by ex-CEO Alan Mulally more than a decade ago. The original One Ford blueprint cut the number of Ford's global architectures from 30 to nine. Now the automaker wants to cut that from nine down to five modular architectures. One of those platforms will serve the imminent Focus Active, and that crossover will share its Focus underpinnings with the crossover being called the "Baby Bronco."

The five platforms will be: a FWD/AWD unibody, a RWD/AWD unibody, a RWD/AWD body-on-frame, a commercial van unibody, and a unibody structure for pure electric vehicles. The aim of the rationalization is to cut $25.5 billion in expenses in the coming five years, improve local and regional scale, and shave 20 percent off the time it takes to move a new vehicle idea from sketch to showroom. The automaker eyes $7 billion in savings just on engineering and product development.

Naturally, Hau didn't identify specific products, but he said the small crossover would use "off-road positioning and imagery" (our rendering above envisions what could be), yet will get a premium price. Those two attributes would clearly distinguish the CUVfrom the EcoSport below and the Escape above, Some suspect that the Baby Bronco will actually wear the name Timberline or perhaps Maverick. If it does, that would help the extra-soft-roader escape a potential bashing from the Bronco II faithful; not that it would matter, though, since Ford could sell a ton of the little CUVs if it puts the right offering on the dealer floor. We're waiting to find out if the Focus Active will get AWD, but the Baby Bronco seems a lock for the option, especially if it plans to lure the Jeep Compass or Renegade buyer.

The Ranger-based, body-on-frame big-boy Bronco is expected to bow sometime next year as a 2020 model. According to a Reuters source, the Baby Bronco "could debut in 2019 as a 2020 model" as well.

Is This A Prototype Of Ford's Baby Bronco SUV?

The Focus-based small SUV could be hiding underneath this Fiesta mule.
The next couple of years will be pretty intense for Ford. The Blue oval marque is set to launch a number of brand new vehicles, including a hybrid Mustang and a Mustang-inspired SUV, and will also say goodbye to some established nameplates. One of the new additions to the lineup will be a small B-segment SUV/crossover, work on which has already started. This new set of spy photos takes us closer to the development process of the so-called Baby Bronco.

Actually, this is not the first time we are seeing a Fiesta-based prototype out testing. Back in March this year, we saw another mule performing cold winter tests. It had a longer wheelbase compared to this trial car and also wheels with five nuts. The new prototype also appears to be a tad wider, but that could be just a side effect of the plastic wheel arches.

Here's everything we know about the Baby Bronco

This jacked up Fiesta mule is an RHD prototype, which suggests the future B-segment SUV will be offered virtually everywhere around the world. This new vehicle is believed to be based on the platform that underpins the fourth-generation Focus. The architecture is highly flexible and to Ford is basically what the MQB is to Volkswagen.
The automaker promises the small SUV will feature “off-road positioning and imagery,” and will be inspired by the design of the classic Bronco from the mid-1960s. It won’t ride on a body-on-frame chassis, but will instead share many of its suspension and powertrain components with the next-generation Escape/Kuga duo.
“Designed to win a growing number of people who love getting away and spending time outdoors with their families and friends,” the Baby Bronco will most likely benefit from an all-wheel-drive system and is expected to get an engine range consisting of four-cylinder turbocharged units.
Different sources suggest the vehicle will debut in early 2020, at about the same time the Mustang crossover and the revived Bronco SUV will arrive.

New Ford ‘Baby’ Bronco: This Is (Likely) It, As First Photos Slip Out Early!

Ford hasn’t revealed the name of its so-called Baby Bronco, but the company has apparently let pictures of the crossover slip out far ahead of schedule.

First noticed by Off-Road, the pictures were found on a “publicly accessible part of a Ford website hosting pictures” from the company’s dealer meeting in Las Vegas. While the publication suggests the images show the 2020 Bronco, there seems to be far more similarities with the Baby Bronco which is officially billed as a “rugged small utility.”
As you can see in this comparison, the profile of the crossover is identical to a previous teaser image of the Baby Bronco. All of the key details match up perfectly including the rake of the windshield, the position of the roof rake and even the small angular C-pillar.

The front end is a little different, but the images show the model will have circular headlights with LED daytime running light rings. Interestingly, the lights extend into the grille and effectively replace the chrome bar that is a typically styling feature of Ford trucks.
Further below, we can see a black plastic front bumper and what appears to be two red tow hooks. Other notable styling features include front fender vents, a contrasting roof and aggressive off-road tires.
Ford has been tight-lipped about the Baby Bronco, but the model is expected to arrive sometime after the standard Bronco is launched in 2020. It should hit the market before 2023 and Ford has already said it will target the “growing number of people who love getting away and spending time outdoors with their families and friends.”
