![]() Chiefs’ personnel executive Chris Ballard will not interview with the 49ers for their vacant general manager position and doesn’t plan to seek any other position, NFL Network reported Monday.
Ballard is the director of football operations for the Chiefs. He was director of player personnel when he was hired in 2013. Ballard interviewed with the Bears in 2015 for their vacant GM job, but passed on interview opportunities with the Eagles and Jets. Tyreek Hill's TD Sunday cost Vikes DB Marcus Sherels $100k. Sherels had bonus for leading NFL in punt return avg. Hill's TD moved him ahead |

![]() Holy shit that would suck. Last game of the year and one guy costs you 100k. I will say though, we are going to most likely play the Steelers at home. Could time for some redemption. Should be a good game.
I am a Steelers fan too. Would rather see KC win it because it's overdue, but if Steelers win i will cheer them on.

![]() Arrowheadlines: Jeremy Maclin says Andy Reid is guy you want, Chiefs dominated AFC West
"Everybody should be back for the next time we play," Reid said. The head coach expects a full roster ready on Jan. 15 when the team hosts a divisional playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium. That includes linebacker Justin Houston and running back Spencer Ware, both of whom sat out Sunday’s season finale. It also covers safety Eric Berry, who left the game early with a tight Achilles.Chiefs 2017 schedule includes every AFC playoff team | Arrowhead Pride The Kansas City Chiefs regular season is over which means we now know their 2017 schedule. Well, we know who they will play and where but we don’t know when they play.Gates ties the TD record, but Chiefs won't let him break it | Press Enterprise Gates was targeted in the end zone with about two minutes to play. But despite Philip Rivers finding the smallest of windows to reach Gates, the ball hit his mitts then fell to the grass. "In my mind I was thinking this is probably going to be my last chance because the crowd anticipation was so high,'' said Gates, a 14-year pro. "It was drawn perfectly.''Week 17 Snap Judgments | New England Patriots "I think it’s something that not very many coaches in that situation could have done,’’ said Chiefs receiver and former Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin in the post-game, of Reid’s ability to quickly build a second playoff-contending program. "I think he’s the type of guy you want to take over an organization. Any time you have a coach that guys respect and love to play for, it makes the job a lot easier and that’s how it is here. Each year we’ve gotten better and better and better, and it’s all because of him and the organization.’’Rather than work, playoff-bound Chiefs get a week to rest | AP In the span of four sweet hours, Smith went from potentially spending the entire week getting ready for a road playoff game to having the rest of it off. Coach Andy Reid said Monday he was releasing his players following their normal weekly meetings, a reward for their victory over San Diego that, coupled with Oakland's loss at Denver, gave them the AFC West title and a much-needed first-round bye.Photo Gallery: Post Game Celebration in San Diego | Chiefs.com Upon Further Review: 10 Quick Facts Following Chiefs’ 37-27 win on Sunday | Chiefs.com In the six games against divisional opponents this year, the Chiefs averaged 30 points per game offensively and allowed an average of just 19. They proved time and time again that they were the best team in the division. What We Learned From Chiefs Coach Andy Reid on Monday | Chiefs.com OPENING STATEMENT: "Alright, I really don’t have any injuries for you. With the exception of Dadi [Nicolas], I don’t think we really had anything to report. Everything is kind of precautionary stuff. Everybody should be back for the next time that we play. Let me kind of give you the schedule of where we’re at and where we’re going here. So, the players are in today. I’m going to get them out of here just like we did during the bye week. They’ll be back for Monday practice. It will be a short 10-10-10 practice, and then, we start. They’re off Tuesday, and we’ll be back in our normal week. Then, the coaches are working a few days, and I’m going to give them a couple days off. Then, they’ll be back later in the week before we get cranking, so they can see these games as they’re going on."Chiefs’ Chris Ballard not interviewing for 49ers’ GM opening | The Kansas City Star A key member of the Chiefs’ scouting department won’t be interviewing for the San Francisco 49ers’ vacant general manager opening, after all. Chris Ballard, the Chiefs’ director of football operations, won’t be interviewing with the 49ers, a source told The Star on Monday. Reports from earlier in the day said that Ballard had a meeting scheduled with the club.Charcandrick West's receiving skills surface again | ESPN "He has such a good feel just from playing a lot, not only in the run game but the pass game too -- how guys defend him, how to win,’’ Smith said. "That first third down of the game, it was a big play by him . . . him seeing it, identifying and then obviously making the play.’’Chiefs appreciate bye week entering NFL playoffs | The Kansas City Star The Chiefs played all possible opponents during the regular season, sweeping the Raiders, losing to the Texans and getting crushed by the Steelers. From a scouting perspective, the familiarity is an advantage. "I imagine you can say that," Reid said. "But it goes both ways." |

He means if Toub goes to one of our division rivals, that because Toub/Tyreek work together now, Tryeek would be rendered worthless in those games.

![]() Chiefs bring healthy roster into playoffs, unlike last year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jeremy Maclin last Sunday in San Diego initially thought he was revisiting a piece of his past he'd prefer remain as history. He twisted his ankle in the Kansas City Chiefs' regular season-ending victory and immediately flashed back to the ankle injury he suffered in the playoff opener last year. "The first thing that goes through my mind is Houston," Maclin said of the site of that playoff game last year. "I'm sitting there like, 'This can't be happening.' As I started walking, the pain kind of eased up a little bit. Luckily for me it's not as severe as I initially thought it was." <img class="lazyloaded imageLoaded" data-image-container=".inline-photo">Jeremy Maclin twisted his ankle in the regular-season finale, but he'll be ready to go for the Chiefs in the playoffs. AP Photo/Rick ScuteriMaclin eventually returned to the game in San Diego and will be available to play a week from Sunday when the Chiefs, after an opening week bye, play their first playoff game. The Chiefs expect to have not only Maclin then, but a roster full of healthy players. Other than rookie linebacker Dadi Nicolas, a backup who played almost exclusively on special teams, the Chiefs should have all of their players available for that Jan. 15 game at Arrowhead Stadium. Nicolas ruptured the patellar tendon in his knee and is finished for the season. But the Chiefs expect linebacker Justin Houston and running back Spencer Ware to play. Houston has missed the last two games because of soreness in his surgically repaired left knee. Ware didn’t play in San Diego because of sore ribs. Having a full roster would be a luxury the Chiefs didn’t have last year for their divisional round playoff game against the Patriots in New England. Maclin, Houston and Ware all played but were of little value to the Chiefs because of injuries. Starting offensive linemen Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Mitch Morse were among the regulars who didn't play at all in New England. "Last year we were banged up just a little bit going in," coach Andy Reid said. "The obvious is that there were some guys that couldn't contribute." |

![]() In addition to the previously reported Elijah Shumate and Jeff Richards, the Chiefs auditioned receiver Tre Houston, kicker Devon Bell, defensive tackle Montori Hughes, linebacker Deon Lacey, defensive end Terrell Lathan, tight end Ryan Malleck, running back Will Ratelle and defensive back Julian Wilson last Friday, per Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. All are candidates to sign reserve/futures deal with the Chiefs, writes Paylor, who notes that now-starting running back Spencer Ware joined the team on that type of contract in January 2015.

![]() Jamaal Charles unsure of future after knee surgeries
As of a month ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were excited about the prospect of a Jamaal Charles return just in time for a Super Bowl run. So why did the team opt to pull the plug on the star running back's season a couple of weeks later? Writing for his official website Monday, Charles outlined the surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews on both knees in November. When Andrews went in to repair a torn meniscus, the decision was made to clean out the other knee as well. Neither surgery was major, per Charles. After working out in Florida the past couple of months, Charles insists he's feeling better than he's felt all year. So where does that leave his 2017 plans after turning 30 years old late last month? Charles is "thankful" to be part of a Chiefs organization that is like "family" after nine seasons in Kansas City. Due nearly $7 million in salary and bonuses next season, though, he will almost certainly be asked to take a pay cut. "I honestly don't know what the future holds for me," Charles said. "What I do know is that I still want to play football. I was only 29 years old this season. My goal right now is to just focus on the now and my rehab and let the rest sort itself out later." If Charles and the Chiefs can't find common ground in contract restructuring talks over the next two months, we might see one of the best backs of the past decade in a different uniform.
