Here's What Toyota Said About A Manual Supra

It's a question worth asking because Japan could be on the cusp of getting a three-pedal Supra.
And just in case there hasn’t been enough Supra news lately, here’s another helping. It comes courtesy of Automobile’s latest exchange with a Toyota representative about the chances of a manual Supra coming to market. The round of questioning was spurred when BMW announced a widespread revamp of 11 models, which included a horsepower upgrade for the M550i xDrive, new tech for the X2, and the inclusion of a manual transmission for the Z4 sDrive20i.
Our interest, as well as Automobile’s, was piqued by that last piece of news because the Toyota Supra is essentially a cheaper and slightly modified version of the Z4. That means any upgrades it receives, including a manual transmission, could presumably be added to the Supra with ease.

So when Automobile heard that the BMW Z4 was getting a manual, it reached out to Toyota to see if the gearbox would eventually trickle down to the Supra. Toyota replied, saying, "We may have heard a time or two (or more) that there’s a desire for a manual transmission in the Supra. However, we’re confident in the performance of the current setup . . . We feel it’s the optimal combination for the U.S. market at this time and we’re anxious for customers to drive the new Supra and experience it for themselves. We’ll be sure to check back into the conversation at that time and see what people have to say.”
To be fair, Toyota has a point. With the manual take rate of an enthusiast’s car like the 86 so low, it’s reasonable to expect a manual Supra to sell poorly enough that it makes the venture unworthy of Toyota’s investment dollars. And then there’s the biggest hurdle: the engine that comes under the hood of US-market Supras.

Unlike the American Supra, the BMW Z4 comes with a variety of engines including a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s packed into the sDrive30i (which has a similar engine to the sDrive20i with the new manual option), and the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six mill that the sDrive M40i shares with the Toyota Supra. Given that the manual is only slated for (and presumably only designed for) the four-cylinder Z4, and because that engine isn’t available in the US market Toyota Supra, it’s unlikely that gearbox makes it to Supras stationed stateside.
Of course, Toyota could just go ahead and give the US-market Supra the Z4’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, since it already offers the motor to Japanese Supra buyers and because the engine is already certified to sell in the US. Parsing the word choice in Toyota’s statement leaves open the possibility that Supras in markets offering the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine could get the Z4’s new manual. And the Toyota spokesperson encouraging US buyers to try out the current Supra could indicate that the Japanese automaker does have plans for a manual to make it to US Supras but doesn’t want buyers to hold off from buying the current Supra because of it. As always, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

The 2020 Toyota Supra Wants To Take On The Porsche 718 Cayman, Can It Succeed?

Porsche and Toyota are rarely mentioned in the same sentence, but it’s going to be more common in the future as the 2020 GR Supra was created with the express purpose of battling the 718 Cayman.

While some people might laugh this off, the Supra is an interesting competitor for a number of reasons including its use of a BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. The Cayman has also gone the turbocharged route, but it relies on mid-mounted 2.0- and 2.5-liter four-cylinders.
In terms of performance, the entry-level Cayman has 296 hp (220 kW / 300 PS) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in as little as 4.5 seconds when equipped with the optional PDK transmission and Sport Chrono Package. Furthermore, the car can hit a top speed of 170 mph (273 km/h).

The Cayman S, on the other hand, packs 345 hp (257 kW / 350 PS) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. Thanks to the extra power, the dash from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) is cut to as little as 4.0 seconds. Likewise, the top speed climbs to 177 mph (285 km/h).
The Supra slots roughly between the two models as it has 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and 365 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. This helps the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds and onto an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
While both models share similar performance specifications, there are some significant differences. The Cayman lineup comes standard with a manual transmission, while one isn’t even offered on the Supra – at least not yet. The Cayman also offers a more powerful GTS variant with 360 hp (269 kW / 365 PS) and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque.
Styling

There has been a lot of love and hate reactions to the exterior styling of the Supra, but we think the model looks like a modern evolution of the A80. That being said, we’re not entirely sold on the car’s controversial front fascia and heavy use of blocked off intakes. However, the rest of the model looks pretty good and we dig the double bubble roof and stylish rear end.
The Cayman, on the other hand, is beautiful and incorporates familiar Porsche styling DNA. It might be too familiar for some, but the car is aging gracefully and benefited from a significant update three years ago.
Also Read: Driven: 2020 Toyota GR Supra Is A Track Weapon And An Everyday Sports Car
Interior design is a different story as the Supra has a bit more character thanks to its diverse shapes and standard carbon fiber trim. The Supra’s infotainment system is also mounted on the top of the dashboard where it’s easier to take a quick look at. Throw in a digital instrument cluster and an impressive amount of standard equipment, and you’ll find the Supra’s cabin is a good place to spend some quality time.
The Cayman has its own advantages including a more stylish steering wheel, a conventional shifter and impressive material quality. Customers can also order a dizzying array of options which means buyers can get exactly what they want. The levels of customization are so insane, you can get an Espresso/Cognac natural leather interior with Racing Yellow instrument cluster dials, Miami Blue seat belts and Mahogany wood trim. Of course, that will cost you – nearly $7,000 in this case.
Pricing

One place where the Supra has the Cayman beat is pricing. The model starts at $49,990 and can be equipped with heated leather seats, a wireless smartphone charger, a premium audio system and an 8.8-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation for $53,990.
The base Cayman starts at $56,900 while the S begins at $69,300. In typical Porsche fashion, the models are sparsely equipped and it’s easy to spend many thousands of dollars adding items such as leather upholstery, power seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and Apple CarPlay.
While the Supra is more affordable, it doesn’t have the same prestige factor as the Cayman. Tell someone you drive a Porsche and they’ll probably be impressed. Tell someone you drive a Toyota and they’ll probably think you own a Camry.

We’re joking a bit, but there’s sure to be some badge snobbery involved in the buying process. How much remains to be seen, but there’s 21 years to pent up Supra demand in the United States.
Another obvious factor is the driving experience. We liked the Supra’s performance on and off the track, but it’s too early to say if its good enough to beat the Cayman. However, there should be plenty of reviews comparing the models in the future.
With all that being said, let us know if you’re team Cayman or team Supra in the comments below.

Another Dyno Test Reveals The 2020 Toyota Supra Has More Power Than Advertised

BMW guts or not, I was adamant that the 2020 Toyota Supra felt like it had more than the reported 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. The car can seriously move, and when Car and Driver revealed a 3.8 second zero to 60 mph time we all started to wonder how much power it really put down. Now the latest dyno test reveals that, at least on the media tester cars we’ve seen so far, the advertised power figures are closer to what the car puts down at the wheels—not at the crank.

The dyno test comes from Motor Trend, which put a Supra press loaner to the test on a Mustang eddy-current chassis dynamometer at World Motorsports in Torrance, California. Their result? A pretty impressive 332 HP and 387 lb-ft to the rear wheels.
For our test, we ran the Supra in sixth gear because its 1.00:1 ratio is the transmission’s most efficient. The horsepower number that the dyno read was just off from what Toyota claims, but the torque figure is considerably higher.
What’s more, the numbers that Toyota promises are taken at the crank, which doesn’t account for the frictional and hydraulic losses occurred in the transmission and differential. Conventional wisdom suggests these could amount to roughly 15 percent for a driveline like the Supra’s, which would suggest our Supra was making 390 hp and 455 lb-ft at the crank.
That dyno result is great, but it is less than the 339 HP and 427 lb-ft at-the-wheel rating that Car and Driver came up with during a test at Livernois Motorsports and Engineering in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Quite a bit less in the torque department.
But even that result was somewhat disputed at the time. And as Motor Trend admitted, this car is a press loaner—for various reasons it could be a ringer of sorts, “tuned to produce extremely impressive performance numbers in hopes of selling more cars.”
At the same time, it’s pretty common knowledge that modern BMW engines are fairly underrated from the factory, so these results are not exactly surprising to me.
What I’m really curious to see is how the dyno tests go for the actual customer cars. But none of that changes the fact that the new Supra is fast and very fun to drive. Anyone willing to plunk down $55,000 for this German-designed, Japanese-tuned, Austrian-assembled wonder-coupe is in for a good time.
Go read Motor Trend for the full story.

Watch The New Toyota Supra Deliver 339 HP At The Wheels

Last month, the world’s media had the opportunity to test out the 2020 Supra and after experiencing what the sports car was capable of, the guys over at Car and Driver had a suspicion Toyota may have underrated the Supra’s engine.

As we reported a few weeks ago, the publication hooked up the car to an all-wheel drive dyno in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Now, the video from that dyno run has been released, revealing how conservative Toyota seems to have been with the car’s headline figures.

According to the Japanese automaker, the Supra’s 3.0-liter BMW-sourced inline-six turbocharged engine pumps out 335 hp and 364 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. Those figures are fairly impressive but the red Supra tested actually delivered 339 hp and 427 lb-ft (578 Nm) at the wheels. Perhaps the most shocking result is that monumental torque figure but Car and Driver suggests it may be a little inflated as the car’s torque converter may not be fully locked until higher in the rev range.
Nevertheless, this is pretty compelling evidence that the Supra

We won’t draw any final conclusions about the Supra’s horsepower and torque figures just yet but these BMW engines are rumored to offer more grunt than advertised for the past couple of years. However, not only was the example tested a press car, but there could have been very favorable weather conditions when the dyno run was performed. To conclude that the Supra has more power than claimed, we’ll have to wait until we start seeing customer cars being tested.

Someone Paid $2.1 Million for This 2020 Toyota Supra

Say what you will about the 2020 Toyota Supra’s provenance or styling, but given its performance and breadth of capability as both track rat and road tripper, it’s hard not to argue that it’s close to a bargain. (Especially now that we’ve learned it’s making way more power than Toyota claims on the spec sheet.)
Of course, to steal a phrase from Orwell, some Supras are more equal than others. For example: the very first 2020 Toyota Supra to roll off the production line. There can be only one of those, and that one was just delivered to the Toyota dealership owner that bought it at auction earlier this year…for a whopping $2.1 million.
There is, not surprisingly, a catch: Toyota dealer John Staluppi’s $2.1 million will be going not to Toyota itself, but to charity — specifically, the Bob Woodruff Foundation (mission: helping veterans and their families) and the American Heart Association (mission: fairly self-explanatory). For his largess, Staluppi also received a racing suit and a signed picture of Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, who also scrawled his John Hancock on the engine cover of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six of Supra No. 1.
The Supra in question is one of the top-trim Launch Edition models, which comes standard with everything from an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation to matte black forged alloy wheels and red mirror caps. Sure, considering it normally sells for $55,250, you could buy 38 other examples of the 1,500 examples of the Launch Edition being made for the $2.1 million Staluppi paid. But then you wouldn’t be able to write all that off on your taxes.

See The Toyota Supra Blast Beyond Its Official Top Speed

Something went wrong. Please make sure you added the video correctly.

Video URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N-lct4pZeE

The speedo slams into 163 MPH and begs for more.

A while back we saw a similar speedometer-focused video of the Toyota Supra sprinting its way to 124 mph (200 km/h), which is well under the 155-mph (249-km/h) electronic speed limiter set by the factory. This new video from YouTube channel L’argus isn’t quite as conservative – the driver keeps the skinny pedal planted until that invisible top speed barrier is hit, and then breached. And you know what? It sure doesn’t take very long for a car that’s supposed to have 335 horsepower (250 kilowatts). More on that in a bit.

We don’t know details of the run such as location, altitude, or weather conditions, nor can we technically confirm this an actual speed run as opposed to a car sitting stationary on a dyno. We’re 99.9 percent confident this is the real deal, however, as there are several moments where shadows blast across the Supra’s digital instrument cluster. Also, the acceleration seems to slow as we’d expect toward the far end of the spectrum, though honestly, it doesn’t slow by much.

The car goes from a standstill to an indicated 163 mph (263 km/h) – a few clicks over its official top speed – in just 30 seconds. The Supra’s boosted 3.0-liter inline six pulls up at around 6,500 RPM with the transmission in sixth gear, but the mill has enough gumption to keep the speed limiter pegged in both seventh and eighth gear. Considering that, as well as the steady acceleration that was still occurring before the electronic nanny kicked in, we can easily see a stock Supra going much faster. 180 mph anyone?

That adds more fuel to the debate on whether Toyota is sandbagging the A90 Supra’s horsepower rating. We already know the BMW-sourced I6 engine is capable of more – it makes 382 hp (285 kW) in the Z4, and a recent dyno test by Car and Driver on a media vehicle returned 339 hp (253 kW) at the rear wheels. Manufacturer power ratings are always established at the crankshaft, which means the Supra might have over 400 hp once driveline power losses are figured in. On the flip side, errors in dyno figures are certainly possible, and being a media vehicle it’s also possible Toyota tossed in a ringer to impress us journalists.
In any case, the new Supra is plenty fast.

Euro-Spec Toyota Supra Dyno Test Shows Impressive Numbers, Again

Something went wrong. Please make sure you added the video correctly.

Video URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60cxIFwHJNU

It's basically a tuner’s dream.

Less than a month ago, we had the chance to watch the new Toyota Supra in North American configuration do a test run on the dyno. The results were somewhat shocking, showing the Japanese sports coupe delivers 339 horsepower (253 kilowatts) and 427 pound-feet (579 Newton-meter) at the wheels versus 335 hp (250 kW) and 365 lb-ft (495 Nm) at the crank as listed by the automaker. Today, we are able to find out the exact power numbers of the Euro-spec Supra, and they are equally stunning.

The folks over at CarThrottle took a Supra to what is believed to be the first dyno test of the model in the United Kingdom. Before you dive in into the video above, let us remind you the factory numbers of the European Supra – 335 hp (250 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm). Simply put, the torque rating is a tad bigger on the Old Continent and it’s important to note that we are talking about the 3.0-liter engine (codenamed BMW B58B30) and not the 2.0-liter four-banger that’s available in some markets.

Well, we have to say we expected this but we are still thrilled – the Euro-spec Supra pushes out 376.6 hp (280.8 kW) at the wheels with torque in the region of 410 lb-ft (556 Nm). That’s a completely stock motor and a few small tweaks like a new exhaust, a larger intercooler, and a remap should easily boost these numbers to well above 400 – for both the power and torque (in hp and lb-ft). Keep in mind that these figures are calculated by assuming the percentage of loss from the transmission and drivetrain. We’ll let you make the conclusion for yourself but all we can say is that the new Supra is shaping up like a tuner’s dream.

Toyota Says A Supra Targa Is Possible, If Enough Of You Ask For It

Toyota only just launched the new Supra but according to a report coming from Japan, a Targa version might be in the works.

Best Car Magazine recently had the opportunity to speak with chief Supra engineer Tetsuya Tada about the possibility of a droptop Supra being offered to the public. Though a somewhat-iffy translation of the Japanese news article, it seems as though Tada is open to the idea of selling the new Supra as a Targa but didn’t go as far as to say whether or not it will actually happen.
Building a droptop Supra shouldn’t prove too difficult for the car manufacturer as the BMW Z4 which the Supra shares its platform with is sold exclusively as a convertible. The Toyota Supra also has a history of being offered in Targa forms in third- and fourth-generation guises of the sports car and it’s obvious that customers would welcome such a vehicle into the Supra family with open arms.

According to Tada, if the Japanese car manufacturer receives enough requests for a new Supra Targa, “it may be made.”

For now, the new Supra is being sold in Europe and the United States exclusively in hardtop guise with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine from BMW and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It makes sense for the company to be focusing its energy on this model, and the 2.0-liter model in Japan, for the time being before considering ways to grow the Supra family.
The fourth-generation Supra was built for almost a decade so if the new car enjoys a similarly-long production run, Toyota has plenty of time to offer the car in a host of different forms.
Carscoops has contacted Toyota to see if any information about a new Supra Targa is available.

Watch 2020 Toyota Supra Easily Outpace A BMW Z4 M40i

The Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 M40i are in essence, sister models sharing a platform, powertrain, and many other components, so one would think they would be very eventually matched from a performance standpoint. To see if this is indeed the case, CarWow lined up the two for a series of tests.

As this comparison was conducted in the UK, the BMW Z4 M40i featured is the Euro-spec car. This is important because according to BMW, its 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine pumps out 335 hp, a substantial 47 hp less than the U.S.-spec Z4 M40i. The Toyota Supra, in both the U.S. and European markets, provides an identical 335 hp thanks to the same engine.

With this in mind, you’d expect the two to be side-by-side in a drag race. However, it was the Supra which easily outpaced the BMW in a straight line.
In two standing-start drag races with launch control enabled, it was the Japanese sports car which easily put down its German sibling on both occasions. We suspect this is because the Z4 M40i in European-spec actually pumps out about 335 hp like BMW claims. By comparison, the Supra has been shown to have substantially more power than Toyota claims, perhaps near the level of the U.S.-spec Z4 M40i with its 382 hp.

The Supra’s clear power advantage is made especially clear in a rolling race where the Supra easily edges ahead of the BMW and continues to run away from the droptop. The Supra didn’t have everything go its way, however, and was beaten in a braking test from 70 mph (112 km/h).

BMW M Boss Says “Never Say Never” To M3-Powered Toyota Supra

Despite BMW and Toyota insisting that, after agreeing on basic requirements, they then went their separate ways in developing their new sports cars, things certainly don’t look that way; and one more clue is the fact that the the new Supra might, eventually, get the next M3’s engine.

Autocar recently had the opportunity to sit down with M Division president Markus Flasch and asked whether the new twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder from the X3 M and X4 M, which will soon find its way in the brand-new M3, could also find be used in the Supra.
“We’ve certainly made no offer to supply the engine to Toyota – and no request has been made, as far as I know,” he said. “But it’s an interesting idea, if unlikely for now. It would be a lot for us to give away, you might say. But I’d never say never.”

While we’re sure many Supra enthusiasts would be intrigued at the possibility of a near-500 HP version of the Japanese sports car, Flasch indicated that it’s unlikely to happen, at least while the X3 M and X4 M’s S58 engine is still in its infancy.

“As a rule, we don’t offer BMW M engines to third parties because we consider them such a strength of our cars,” he said. “I think it would be a hard decision for a lot of the team to accept – particularly with the S58 being so new. Why would we sell it before we had a chance to use it ourselves in all the places we plan to?”
Powering both the current Supra and the BMW Z4 M40i is the B58 3.0-liter, single turbo straight-six. While the Toyota’s 335 HP might not sound like an awful lot for a rear-wheel drive sports car in 2019, dyno runs have revealed that it likely pumps out closer to 380 HP, propelling it to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.1 seconds.
A more powerful variant, complete with two turbochargers and upwards of 500 HP, could be just what Toyota needs to win over those remaining diehard Supra fans still not convinced by the new car.
Still, with the long-awaited sports car selling like hot cakes right now, and BMW not willing to share its latest mill just yet we don’t expect that to happen anytime soon (if at all..). The mid-life cycle revamp, which is at least three to four years, if not more, into the future, or a special hardcore variant to spice up interest, would be the logical choice – but, then again, you never know.

New Toyota Supra FASTER On Top Gear’s Test Track Than Lambo Murcielago

Some say that his brain is actually a sat-nav system and that he always faces north. All we know is that he is called The Stig, and he recently drove the new generation Toyota Supra on Top Gear’s test track, at the Dunsfold Aerodrome, in Surrey, UK.

The 2.83 km (1.75 miles) long circuit that includes 12 turns has long served as a proving ground of sorts, both for automakers and celebrity drivers alike. In the case of the new Toyota Supra GR, you could say it was a walk in park, as the coupe completed the course in 1 minute and 23.1 seconds.
Also Watch: The New Toyota Supra Faces Its Fiercest Rivals From Porsche, BMW And Alpine; Can It Come Out On Top?
Taking a look at the leader-board shows that it was as fast as the Porsche 997 GT3 and Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale. It also managed to beat some not-so-old supercars into submission, showing just how far the industry has come.

The Ferrari F430 Spider was one tenth of a second slower and Lamborghini’s Murcielago ran across the finish line in 1:23.7. Even the Ford GT40, Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series and V10-powered BMW M5 E60 were all SLOWER than Toyota’s new sports car, which shares its underpinnings with the latest Z4. The Lexus LFA (wet), Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 and Audi R8 V10 Spyder were a bit faster.
The Stig’s run in the Supra was presented yesterday, July 14, as part of Series 27, Episode 5, which also included a tribute to the Lotus 79 and a look at Iceland’s Formula Off-Road, as well as four celebrity guests invited: Will Young, Peter Wright, Mario Andretti and Clive Chapman.

The Toyota Supra Configurator Has Refreshingly Few Options

The 2020 Toyota Supra configurator is up! What was a slow summer Monday is now a JDM-filled dreamscape. How will you build yours? How expensive can we make them off the lot? Let’s find out.

Personally, I see no reason to opt for the Launch Edition, as I think it’s for fanboys and idealists. Plus, it’s only offered in black, white and red. Boring. I do like heated seats, though, so it’s the Premium trim for me. In Nitro Yellow for $395, please. Because why not?
And with a black leather interior as standard on all three trims (including the base), I’m going to need to bring a towel with me to sit on if I leave it in the sun for too long. We’re all aware of the agony of skin hitting a hot, black leather seat in the summer.

And I do like the look of the carbon fiber mirror caps. They’re a small detail, but I think they change the way a car looks head-on. They’re $925, though, which is a lot. Maybe if I hold off for now, I can get aftermarket ones for way cheaper. It’s not like we’re going for real weight savings here.
The rest of the Supra’s options are pretty thin, which is admittedly nice. There’s only one engine option, so the rest has to do with stuff like cargo mats, first aid kits and paint protection films.
I kind of feel like this is the way you should be able to customize a sports car. I mean, I’d love a manual transmission here, but we can’t win them all. What we do get is a sports car that doesn’t overwhelm you with options because you’re meant to drive it, not live out of it in extremely luxury.
My Pikachu-Supra came out to a total of $56,240. With the paint and the black detailing and the red brake calipers, it’s basically the same thing. It’s a bit pricey for a Toyota with very few options, but it’s also the Supra. There was bound to be some premium charging here.
My runner-up color is Downshift Blue, but I’ve been on a yellow car-kick lately. What do your Supras look like?

Toyota Kicks Off New Ad Campaign As 2020 GR Supra Arrives At Dealers Later This Month

The Toyota Supra is back after a 21 year absence and the company is marking the occasion by launching a new ad campaign that highlights their latest sports car.

Designed to showcase Toyota’s sports car heritage, the “This Is Our Sport” campaign “highlights the thrill of getting to know the 2020 GR Supra and a rediscovered appreciation for the simple joy of driving.”
The campaign consists of multiple ads and the 30 second spot is called “Track Day.” Set to Julie Andrews’ “Getting to Know You,” the commercial was previewed at Toyota’s media event in May and shows the sports car tackling Road Atlanta.

Toyota will also be showing an assortment of six second clips called “0 to 60”, “Balanced”, “Face Off”, “Joy”, “Ribbon”, “Sport Mode” and “Walks On Water.” Toyota released two of them today and “Joy” shows a yellow Supra doing a burnout to create a happy face. The other six second spot, dubbed “Face Off,” plays up the Supra’s heritage as it shows the 2020 GR Supra coming face-to-face with its predecessor.
The videos were directed by Ozan Biron and the 30 second spot will be shown during motorsports programming on TV. The ads will also be shown on a number of popular websites and including social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Instagram. There will also be a print component and even an augmented reality integration.

The 2020 GR Supra will be launched later this month and pricing starts at $49,990. The model was built in partnership with BMW and features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and 365 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via an active differential. This enables the coupe to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 4.1 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The Stig takes Toyota Supra on Top Gear track

Something went wrong. Please make sure you added the video correctly.

Video URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjTB7Po38Jw

In America, the new season of "Top Gear" with Chris Harris, Freddie Flintoff, and Paddy McGuinness as presenters began last night, July 15, 2019. But in Europe, BBC Two has been airing the new season for weeks already, which means they've seen a segment on the new Toyota Supra. Fortunately, "Top Gear" posted more Supra content on YouTube for all to see, no matter your location.

"Top Gear" brought the Supra into the mix in episode 5, the last of season 27. After Paddy McGuinness spent some time with the car, The Stig took a turn on the "Top Gear" track for an "Extra Gear" segment. With a bit of finessing, the car turns in a time of 1:23.1.

Under the "Extra Gear" guise, the Stig drives are a bit more sterile, as there's no commentary and the video does not show where the car sits in the rankings board. However, based on the board we saw in the first episode, the Supra would sit below the Alpine A110 (122.9) and just above the Mercedes-AMG S63 (1:24.0). Its placement on the big board means the Zeno E10 S and Lexus LC500 are pushed down a slot.

For reference, The Stig is working with a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that makes a claimed 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. Check out the full lap above.

Enjoy The Sounds Of This Aftermarket Exhaust For The New Toyota Supra

The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six from BMW powering the Toyota Supra is one of the most tune-able engines on sale and you can be assured aftermarket companies will soon start pumping up upgrade packages for it. For some, the Supra doesn’t sound all that impressive, at least when left untouched.

Eager to establish itself as one of the go-to companies for Supra owners looking to make their cars a little more exciting, Milltek Sport presented their new exhaust system for the Supra at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The exhaust certainly doesn’t turn the Japanese sports car into a howling monster but it definitely gives it extra character.

When idling, the exhaust gives the Supra a nice burble and is bound to make it turn even more heads at traffic lights. Once it is revved up, the exhaust really comes to life, producing some intoxicating pops and bangs, somewhat reminding us of the Lexus LC500.
As standard, the Supra’s engine produces a claimed 335 hp but multiple dyno tests have revealed that it actually pumps out more like 380 hp and perhaps a little more. It’s, therefore, little surprise that some media outlets were able to sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in the rear-wheel drive sports car in less than 4-seconds, an impressive figure for a vehicle in this class and price point (at least up until GM upped the performance ante with the Corvette C8).
Milltek notes in this video that the exhaust featured in this clip isn’t a finished product and that it continues to develop its cat-back exhaust. It remains to be seen when it will hit the market and how much Supra owners will need to pay.

2020 Toyota Supra Sounds Delicious With Akrapovic Exhaust

Something went wrong. Please make sure you added the video correctly.

Video URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmFfPFGo-Tg

Add a meaner sound to your new Supra.

Akrapovic is one of the top names in exhaust tuning, and the firm now turns its attention to the 2020 Toyota Supra. The company uses titanium for both the muffler and pipes of this new part. The result is a much more sonorous sound from the engine. For some extra style, the interior of the outlets come straight from the factory with the violet-blue color that comes from exposing titanium to high temperatures. As extra options, buyers can specify the Akrapovic Sound Kit that allows for tweaking the sound from the pipes.

udging by this video, the Akrapovic exhaust adjusts the Supra's sound so that there's more of a burble at lower revs and an additional crackle during gear changes. At least in this video, the tone doesn't seem obnoxious and could be something most people could live with for daily driving. The Toyota's sound from the factory is a bit subdued, so this system's changes could add a welcome amount of aggressiveness to the coupe's noise.

The new Supra is now trickling into American showrooms, and the aftermarket is preparing to offer lots of parts for it. For example, Prior Design and Rocket Bunny are developing widebody its for the coupe. In addition, Toyota's TRD division is working on parts like carbon fiber body elements and 19-inch forged wheels.
If you don't want to add anything to the 2020 Supra, then prices start at $50,920 after the $930 destination fee. Opt for the better-equipped Premium trim and load it with options for a coupe that tops out at $59,744.

KW Tune For 2020 Toyota Supra Sharpens Handling, Looks

The all-new Toyota Supra is a magnet for aftermarket companies and Germany’s KW Automotive makes no exception.

The suspension manufacturer has released details about the first fully adjustable coilover suspension kit for the latest Supra A90, the KW Variant 3. The aftermarket suspension is said to improve the Japanese sports car’s lateral dynamics without sacrificing ride quality in normal driving conditions on public roads.
Despite lowering the ride height by up to 40 mm (1.57 inches), the suspension absorbs road irregularities “harmoniously” and prevents bumpy driving behavior as the bodywork’s pitch and roll movements are noticeably reduced.

The multi-valve dampers offer separate adjustment of compression (16 clicks) and rebound (12 clicks) settings therefore offering a multitude of setups according to the driver’s preferences. KW says this motorsport-derived technology allows for a “driving behavior as tight as necessary and as comfortable as possible.”
As a matter of fact, the Toyota Supra that raced at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring earlier this year also used a KW suspension with separately adjustable compression and rebound dampers.

“Despite the low center of gravity of the GR Supra, our KW Variant 3 Coilover allows a stepless lowering of 15-35 millimeters (0.59-1.38 inches) on the front axle and 20-40 millimeters (0.78-1.57 inches) on the drive axle,” says KW product manager Johannes Wacker.

Looking at the photos, it’s pretty obvious that the KW adjustable coilover suspension kit also improves the 2020 Supra’s looks. Thanks to the lower ride height, the sports car appears more planted and menacing. The prices for theKW Variant 3 Coilover kit haven’t been released yet.

2020 Toyota Supra Gets Pandem Widebody Kit, Has Huge Rear Wing

To talk about the aftermarket potential of the 2020 Toyota Supra, we must first discuss its predecessor, the Mk IV. You see, the 1990s sportscar was far from perfect, as, for instance, it's quite unfriendly to the scales, but the tuning-friendly nature of its 2JZ engine is what earned its reputation.

As such, we can say that the Mk V Supra was born modded. In fact, the Japanese automotive producer itself explains that it has lefty plenty of stuff on the table for tuners to step in. For instance, while the sportscar doesn't pack a rear wing from the factory, its body was prepared to accept such a mod.

Heck, Japanese drifting legend Daigo Saito got to install a 2JZ in the new Supra way ahead of the vehicle's official unveiling and this is just one example - here's the aficioando drifting the hell out of the contraption, with the engine delivering the kind of aural delights that have made it famous.

Well, we are now here to discuss another example of a modded 2020 Supra. This build is in an early stage, though and it seems things are kicking off with a widebody kit.

This is not any aero collection, though - the kit that you see test-mounted in the social media posts below is a Pandem goodie. For the record, Pandem is a sister brand to Rocket Bunny, with these coming from Tra Kioto, a Japanese developer run by Kei Miura.

Now, you might want to know how the full kit looks when installed on the car. Well, we don't have to wait until the project is completed, as the rendering below allows us to check that out.

Speaking of which, if you're looking for an even spicier application of the Pandem kit, perhaps this Toyota is the thing for you (spoiler alert: it's a Hilux).
