Default Good All-Season Tire Recommendations

My mom needs new tires on her car (2007 VW Beetle TDi), and I am a bit out of my element finding all-season/touring tires. I just don't have much experience at all in this segment.

The size she needs is 225/45r17. We don't want to spend stupid amounts of money on a tire, but quality is absolutely important, as she will be driving in all 4 seasons, so wet and snow traction are important. She does a lot of highway driving, so road noise and longevity are also important.

She isn't street racing or auto-crossing her TDi Beetle, so performance is really not something that matters at all. We just want to get some good commuter tires.

Does anyone have any good suggestions or experience with a tire that I should look into that fits the bill?

I was looking at those Pirellis and Contis.

A lot of tires though, the reviews go from "This tire is so fantastic in all conditions and I just got 100k out of them!" to "I can't feel the road, it spins in anything but dry, and they were on wear markers at 20k," so it's hard to get a good feel for them. The two above though seem to definitely have a predominantly good consensus.

I figured I would reach out to our community of car dudes and see if I could get some legit feedback in this segment of tire

I am on my 2nd set of Kumho Ecsta ASXs on my STi. For the money they are hard to beat.

For more of a touring type of tire I have used and been happy with Bridgestone Turanzas.

Huge fan of Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires. So much so I've been through 2 sets personally, and have had my family go through 4 between their various cars.

Will get another two sets this year for myself and my wife.

I'd go with the Michelin Premier AS, or the Pilot Sport AS3.

I recommend these to anyone who just wants commuter tires. They may cost a little more, but they are fantastic tires that are very good in the snow as well.

She ended up going with some Hankook Ventus S1 noble2's. They are definitely not going to have the best traction in the snow, but the guy at the VW shop she frequents gave her a damn good deal on them ($120 a tire mounted with warranty) and she is WAY happier with them than the Contis she had on it before. I'm not sure which model she had.

I am hoping they're at least decent in the snow, and they won't kill her in inclement weather. For now though, she is very happy with them.

+1 on the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires. I have had 2 sets, 1 on my Benz and 1 on my Moms Benz.

Both cars are daily drivers and average 25-30k miles a year.
