Toyota 86 gets Ferrari engine transplant

When Toyota and Subaru got together to build their 86 and BRZ coupes, they weren't thinking about big power. Instead, the 200-horsepower coupe they created was focused more on its balance and light weight—factors designed to evoke sports cars of yore.
That's not exactly what drifting pro Ryan Tuerck had in mind for this two-door. It's not clear if this one started life as a Scion FR-S or a Subaru BRZ (the video says it's a Toyota 86, but we think Tuerck is just getting a jump on things since the actual 86 isn't out yet). Either way, it's undergoing a massive power upgrade.
As the video shows, a Ferrari [NYSE:RACE] V-8 has been shoehorned into the coupe, in an effort to "combine the best of Japan and Italy."
That 4.5-liter V-8, in its stock form, is rated at up to 597 hp in Ferrari's latest 458 Speciale. That's a hefty increase over the 200 pony stock motor.
That may sound like sacrilege, but Tuerck knows what he's doing when it comes to these two-doors. Recently, we brought you a thrilling video of the New Hampshire native venturing to his local NASCAR track for a little hoonage and, in the past, he has Tuerck'd an otherwise pastoral Vermont mountain in a 600-hp FR-S.

A Ferrari 458-Swapped Toyota GT86 Has The Most Beastly Exhaust Rumble Ever

Ryan Tuerck fired up his project car to end all project cars tonight: a Toyota GT86 with a Ferrari 458 engine mounted up front. With a ton of custom parts and clever modifications making it work, we couldn’t wait to hear this one, either. Fortunately, the wait is over. Listen to the glorious noise.

Drifter and engine-swapping madman Ryan Tuerck debuted the car’s fantastic noise live on Facebook, and naturally, his project car was a bit behind schedule. There’s plenty for him to talk about in the meantime, so you get a full tour of the car while folks finish up the last few items it needs to fire. (Fast forward to 25 minutes in if you want to skip to the start-up procedure.)

Once it finally fired up—well, how did you think it was going to sound? Honestly, I thought it would sound like beasts picking fights with other beasts and I was right. It shoots wonderful fireballs, too. There’s no way this wasn’t going to turn out rad.

Of course, here’s a lovely build video of those loud header pipes that help it sound so amazing going into the car.

Everything about this project still rules. Next stop: finish it all up and destroy some tires.

Update, Oct. 29 at 4:22 p.m.: Here’s another video, for your viewing pleasure.

Watch A Ferrari-Powered Toyota GT86 Drift Around A Ferrari 458

Ryan Tuerck fired up his Ferrari 458-swapped Toyota GT86 for the first time Friday night, and now it’s back, and it’s doing donuts around none other than a Ferrari 458.

https://www.facebook.com/donutmedia/...1423143686500/

Donut Media has been uploading updates on the GT86 with the most hardcore transplant for awhile now, so be sure to take some time to catch up with this smoke-laying, demonic-sounding beast.

That Incredible Ferrari 458 V8-Swapped Toyota GT86 Just Won't Quit Drifting

Every time I see Ryan Tuerck’s epic Toyota GT86 with the V8 from a Ferrari 458 stuffed into its hood, I still can’t believe how cool it is. It’s the insane drift build that just won’t quit, but let’s face it: if I had a 458 engine swapped into anything, I’d hoon it all the time, too.

Here’s Tuerck hooning some more between Formula Drift practice sessions in Orlando.

Not only does the GT4586's engine note sound like God ate bees for lunch and He is MAD, but it looks even more hilarious with the hood off. I think I like this build even better with that bright red Ferrari engine sticking out for all to see.

Look! Look at this seemingly out of place ridiculousness! See that it works, and it is good! More ludicrous engine swaps, please.

A Ferrari 458 V8-Swapped Toyota GT86 Is The Best Road Car Ever Even If You Get Pulled Over

There’s no greater joy than taking a race car out on normal roads. Your car has the power to instantly make someone’s day—well, except the person who calls the cops because it’s too loud. But hey, it’s street legal, right? Pro drifter Ryan Tuerck went out for the day in his hood-less Ferrari 458 V8-powered Toyota GT86 hoon-mobile, and it is wonderful.

See, this is a totally practical car! It can go out for breakfast, snacks and a good drift afterwards.
Of course, the cops that were called in to investigate the noise—because goodness knows, certain residents around Connecticut hate good sounds. Fortunately, the cops recognized Tuerck and actually wanted to experience the greatness of that wickedly loud 458 engine drive away. Ending the day at the lake and then Thompson Speedway for a rad drift session is much better than towing the good car home because a neighbor was annoyed by the sound of awesomeness.

Now I have to fix my good, obnoxious crapcan racing 944 because getting coffee in anything short of a race car is just not as fun.
