Yeah, not going that route.

Guy at work has a set of unregistered '71 Texas plates I might try and snag up.

Just start a goFundme and have everyone on KCSR donate. I heard it's the cool thing to do now.

I'll probably do a set of longtubes and things as such, but keep it original engine/trans and do factory wheels.

My brother kinda wants my '99 and I don't need two Camaros I want to spend money on, so that's been my debate this week.

Should have kept the Brobalt. It would make a great DD right about now.

At least if you sell it to your brother, you'd have first shot at buying it back

Nice project. Nice to see someone going with the 2nd gen over the 1st gen. They can be equally as good looking.

NSRA and Good Guys shows anymore have almost as many early 2nd gens as first gens anymore, they've definitely picked up tons of popularity as of late.

No photo updates, but I got the car cleaned up inside a little and got the cluster and such out of it. Dash will be coming out next, one of my co-workers that engineered our 2nd gen harness said the dash clips are kinda a bitch, so I'm gonna have him swing by next week and pull the dash at that point.

Hit the roof in a spot with some Zymol out of boredom, thing actually polishes up some. Sucks the paint was done so shitty as far as overspray.

Not many picture updates yet. Got the rest of the interior out and got the car up in the air. Found a how-to on fixing the curled dash, so I'll try that before shelling out $400 on a re-po dash pad.

My dad found a rust-free fender from a '73 my uncle had out at the farm, so I have that. I found a NOS driver fender in Indy I was going to have our Painless truck pick up on Monday, but it may be sold. Beyond that, it should only require small patching of the rockers above the trim line.

Goal in the next few weeks in to pull the motor and take the front clip off as one piece. Then I'll get the subframe sanded/primed and hit it with some chassis saver.

The LT1/TH400 may sit somewhere safe, keeping my eyes out for 5.3s for it.

There is a decent amount of mud in the front clip, I'd assume it was in a minor collision at one point:

The rust on both fenders:

Rockers are solid though. I've since pulled the trim brackets off and cleaned along the rockers.

As always with me, plans change. I began thinking, sure it's more valuable with the matching numbers motor, but it won't get great mileage, won't be a powerhouse, and overall wouldn't be fun to drive.

I snagged up an 04 5.3 and a 4L80 yesterday. I have a set of 243 heads and a decent cam that were going to go into the '99 that will go on that, then I'll probably do an LS6 intake manifold.

Have an AFCO swap radiator specific for the 2nd gen cars, and a set of MuscleRods headers. Waiting to hear back from MuscleRods, but I'm going to run their complete swap mount kit to make it easy and completely reversible.

For interior, I decided to update it as well. I ordered the TMI Sport R setup. It will come with foams, covers, door panels, center console, and sun visors. It utilizes the factory seat brackets and springs, just adds more supportive foam and updated multi-material covers. I went with black/black and black stitching to keep it clean and stockish as the car was all black interior from the factory.

NICE!

Just keep the original motor, so when you go to sell it you can just strap it back in and put the 5.3 into your next project.

I do go through some stuff, but being that I've always loved these, and I inherited it from my uncle, I don't see me dumping it off. A lot of the reason why I convinced myself to swap it.

But yeah, the original powertrain will be cleaned, saran wrapped, and put somewhere safe.

I've always liked the idea of matching numbers and rare stuff, and it would be very easy to get it on the road and going with the motor that's in it.

However, I sold the VFR, and plan to sell Ryan the '99 in August sometime, so I'm going to do it up modern and make it something I'll enjoy driving. The goal is to take it on the Power Tour with work next year, we'll see if that happens.
