Productive day. I got the rear end and suspension/caltracs in fairly early in the day after doing a little modifying on the Caltracs. (The set I have is a very early set, so I had to drill for a steel spacer to work with the newer aluminum leaf spring bushings they use now.

Later in the afternoon, our plant manager from Painless Adam came by to help with a few things as far as getting the subframe aligned. Next thing I know we're stabbing the motor/trans in so I can get the mounts tightened.

A little bit of measuring/aligning the proper driveline angle and the engine/trans is good to go now. I will pull it out to get the firewall done and prepped, but there will be no guess work once I go to set it back in.

Found a shop locally that has the 4L80 yoke in stock, so I'll pick that up on the way home from work and be able to measure to get my driveshaft cut/modified for the 4L80. The truck pinion is goofy and requires a counter-bored yoke, which has been a bit more of a pain to source than I expected.

AC condenser and compressor are on the way from Vintage Air, along with the other odds and ends I needed to complete the kit I had. Guys at Vintage are super knowledgeable and helpful, definitely recommend them to anybody.

Tonight I hope to get the front suspension under the car, then I'll likely be pulling the engine on Saturday and prepping/painting the firewall.

My Magnaflow true duals don't have them. I guess I won't be able to give Karl a ride in it.

Karlen doesn't have to run cats, but everyone else in the world does.

I will be running cats on my LT5, just to keep him happy. If you come up to KC, I will want a ride.

Power Tour ends in KC, so if I get it going, no problem.

Didn't get near as much done as I'd of liked, but still progress. Got the wheels back from the powder coater and tires mounted. I need to buy the blue bowtie center caps then the wheels will be done.

Got the suspension mostly mounted up and hand tight. I put the tie-rods together and eye-balled it off of the old ones to get the alignment somewhat there. Went to O'Reilly's and got an IROC Camaro steering box that is 12.7:1 ratio and provides much better feel. It bolts up, just have to swap the lines to metric, which I am doing custom lines anyway.

Little more progress tonight. Got the bearings greased and in the hub then tossed the rotors on and got the spindle nut squared away.

Got the wheels on the front end and lowered it down and eye-balled the alignment decent enough for now. Thing sits pretty low, RIP longtubes. I also bolted up the IROC steering box.

I've been following your progress on facebook/snapchat. Fantastic build Andrew, can't wait to see it finished. My dad has a '73 split bumper and he offered it to me if I finished it but I can't justify the money it needs to be done right when I have so many other competing projects. Definitely living vicariously through you as you work through the project.

Thanks homie.

I'm not really doing this car "right," but I am too attached to ever sell it, so to hell with the purists.

I'm actually really glad I'm not touching paint/body for a while, will make it more fun to drive without constant worry about messing it up.

My buddy is putting together a 65 Comet Caliente. Leaving the patina'd white paint on it with a few rust spots, but he's doing an EFI'd 347, Liberty TKO-600 and redoing all of the suspension.

His intention is to make a fun cruiser that he can drive whenever/wherever he wants without worrying about dinging it up.

Absolutely nothing wrong with building a car meant to drive.

Picked the seats up from the upholstery guy, so excited to get them together and in the car when the time comes. Here they are just kinda setup for pics:

Also, it appears my driveshaft I have will work with the 4L80 afterall, so I just need to swap the yoke and the driveline is good to go.

Got sick last week and didn't accomplish much, but I did get the seats cut through where they had to be and bolted together.

I got the brake lines routed and the new booster/master/proportioning valve installed (disregard the belt, it was just a Volvo 6 rib belt I had laying around that I was using to check alignment):

Checking clearance with the coils:

Got the rear disc conversion in place and shimmed/aligned, just need to pull the calipers and paint them, then run the lines to them and I'll be in business.

The heater hose outlet/inlet on the water pump point straight out from the factory, which was going to cause my heater hoses to run directly into the upper control arm. I heated the factory pressed in barbs, grabbed them with vice grips, and knocked them out. I then went ahead and tapped it with 1/2" NPT and 3/8" NPT and bought AN fittings that I'll adapt down. The 1/2" NPT to -10 AN is just a standard 90 degree, then the 3/8" NPT to -10 AN is a swivel as I wouldn't have been able to tighten both without them hitting one another.

Also, got the front portion of the floor stripped, ground down everything the stripper didn't get, and coated it with Chassis Saver. I plan on doing the rear floor boards this weekend, but there was a small rust hole under the insulation I had to patch.
