1080 price reduced to 499!!!

1080 ti 35% faster than the 1080 and 699!!!!

Holy fuck.

I was budgeting for a 1070, but fuck that noise it's 1080 all the way now. Unless by some miracle AMD can beat it for the money.

That's the thing...there wasn't competition there GPU wise...best I can imagine is AMD's rumor of Vega news at GDC (which was absolute rubbish) sparked Nvidia to take action...but as it turns out it was completely unnecessary IMO.

I was completely prepared to see 900+ for a 1080 ti but this is pretty much what the 980 Ti pricing was two years ago and the jump from 980 to 980 Ti was much less dramatic. (35% vs. 22%)

are you really complaining? price drops for enthusiasts is music to alot of ears i'm willing to bet.

and even if Vega was rubbish, i expect AMD to pick up in the GPU sector as well after ryzens release.

only 3 cards on the new die set isn't a large pool of choices, considering their previous offerings.

Oh, I'm not complaining. Just wondering what will happen when REAL competition is there.

Though at this point I'm kinda worried for AMD. Not sure how they are going to catch up here. They spoke at GDC and mentioned a similar simultaneous rendering method for VR that nvidia talked about as being a contributor to the massive performance increase, but they already had a lot of catching up to do anyways.

If they want to play the market towards the lower end price and performance wise there's certainly a market for that...but when you're talking about new technologies, graphics advancement through proprietary developer tools...you want to be on top....and we consumers want to go with the company on top...IMO.

Well, true we do want to, but some enthusiasts don't have the pockets deep enough for that.

i'm one of the not very deep pockets group, LOL so i would like an affordable alternative, that while maybe not as great, can at least allow for unnoticeable difference in gameplay. similar to the 960 and the RX460... the differences are so minute, the average joe won't notice them visually.

Yeah I actually watched the live stream. I couldn't believe the 1080 was going to be that cheap. But isn't that like the MSRP - and on NewEgg we'll never see it that cheap? Or it will just be the reference card that's $499. Or do they not have reference 1080's. I forgot.

It was fun, looks great too. Games just don't hold my interest very long anymore. I thought I needed to replace my old cards, should have just saved the money. I need to just build a new system as it's pretty dated at this point. But it still works great for 1 hour of game play per 3 months or so.

Heh, i want to build a new system for VR capability.. which means i'd need an RX480 or a 1060-1080

i also wanted to use UE4 for VR game production. but to do VR you need VR.. and VR is WAY out of my price range.. so there goes that dream LOL

The reviews are coming out!

Quote:
1440p Conclusion

Unless you’re running a high-refresh rate monitor, the GTX 1080 Ti is largely overkill for 1440p. The extra performance headroom shows that the card is better suited for even higher resolutions. At 2560x1440, it should be able to max out every single game you throw at it with smooth frame rates.
1440p + 144hz means I NEED this bitch in my life.

Something went wrong. Please make sure you added the video correctly.

I'm loving the 1080 price drops, more than enough for my needs in VR and at 21:9.

Still waiting to see how Vega pans out, but pretty doubtful.

Tomorrow -

Just an FYI - SLI 1080TI based system @ 32GB of ram a Ryzen based 1700 system (OC favorable 4.0gHz) versus a 6950K same specs is about $900 difference. in favor of the AMD system. Not as much as I would have expected, honestly.

I do need some 1080Ti goodness in my life, looks like the EVGA WC versions are going to come out at 799, not bad.

Pulled the trigger last night on a Zotac 1080 ti Amp Extreme with a 3 slot cooler design as it has the highest stock clock and reportedly is so efficient at cooling the fans can end up cycling on and off during stress tests since the core stays around 65c. Am excite.

I'll usually play most of the top titles that come out for open world, first/third person and am using a 2k, gysnc monitor, so frame rates on my 980 Ti are pretty good in most titles with ultra settings, but there are few more recent ones that it struggles more on. Mass effect and Playerunknown battleground ultra settings I'm below 60 fps, and I really want to be above 100 for the fluidity of the gaming experience, with no fps drops...this 1080 ti should accomplish that.

I've never heard anything but rave reviews of Zotacs cards. When I get a 1080ti this is the card I plan on getting.

Also good luck getting better frames on PUBG.

Upgraded from a 980 TI Strix. Holds 2038/6000 very happy feels like a big difference.

By next year I will probably be at the important time in my life where I need to figure out what step to take with my computer... I have a 980ti and 3x1080p 60hz panels. Upgrading either will be very expensive. I don't "need" 3 monitors but I would really like to keep a setup like that now that I am so used to it. But a different panel in the middle with two old ones on the sides would be so ugly :/ And upgrading a card is stupid right now because the 980ti will push 1080/60 perfectly fine for quite some time to come. Hmmm

It's still getting CPU stutters loading players but when in the map, I'm seeing about 90 fps now with everything at ultra @ 1440p. This card is also dead silent, and isn't going over 65c with stock fan mapping. Amazing.
