Default Official Royals 2012 Season Thread

Tickets went on sale this morning. I didnt go to a single game last year, but I didnt watch the majority of their games. I just picked up home opener tickets.

Should be a good time. First game is Friday the 6th of April versus the new look Angles on ESPN2.

Any predictions for the season, thoughts?

I'm optimistic, I think .500 would be an achievement. That would mean meaningful August and September baseball, if baseball expands the playoffs this year, .500 would have them in the race at least late into the season.

I'm not a believer in the rotation, but there's options there. Bullpen should be rock solid. We'll be better defensively but Melky's bat will be missed. I'm also excited to follow our prospects, still have one of the best farm systems in baseball.

I believe they announced yesterday that the playoffs have been expanded. I really think we have a shot at getting in this year. I am hoping we are buyers at the deadline for once. I wont expect a huge name but possibly a solid 2-3 starter. I hope Hochevar can pull it together at least long enough for Montgomery to get some experience in the bigs or for a call up.

Hopefully Hochevar, Crow and Paulino can step up as starters. We know what Chen can do.
With the speed in front of him, Butler needs to drive in 120 runs.
I like having Dyson in late inning situations as a runner. Seeing him go first to third is a thing of beauty.
Super excited for this year with this talent. Just hope it all comes together and avoid injuries.

The Royals took out the Rangers yesterday 6-1

Here is a good article on the baseball frontpage on ESPN about KC's youngsters

I have a great feeling about this year

Good luck this season guys! In my boards I have Royals finishing second in the division behind the Tigers. With the playoffs expanding, and the talent this team has, they're going to have a real shot at the playoffs.

Twins are in disarray.
Chi Sox are a fucking mess.
Indians are meh...
Royals are moving up like a rocket.

Partial season ticket holder here. I'm pretty excited for the season to start. I too would be happy with a .500 season, but if things start going our way, I can see a divisional race with detroit.

I think that is debatable. The sample size is way too small, but if Getz's hitting in ST reflects true improvement, then Getz is the better player. Gio had a lot of foibles on the defensive side and has yet to really produce, either last year in the bigs or this year in ST. Additionally, Getz is a pretty clutch player. Look up his late game batting average. It is something ridiculous when the game is on the line (+.350 or something). If he hits second, he'll provide the speed to get some runs off the big bat of Billy batting behind him.

I keep hearing about his hitting in spring training, but his numbers are still terrible. On top of that everyone says you don't use spring numbers to justify a roster spot as they aren't really indicative of regular season performance. If Getz has 10 extra base hits by the all-star break I'd be surprised.

Getz has years of data to show that he sucks. Giavotella starts slow at every level then rakes, so worrying about 200AB's in the bigs last year I don't think is a relative sample size. I won't have as big a problem with it if they actually bring him back up when he is ruining AAA pitching again, but I'm scared they won't.

1) Getz clutch stats are not good.
2) He isn't hitting well in spring training. He actually had over 100 point higher OPS last year in spring training.

I was bummed to see Giavotella sent down. I'm hoping it isn't because the administration is in love with Getz. I read somewhere that Giavotella had surgery in the offseason and maybe he isn't back to 100%. Hopefully he gets there soon is brought back up.

The Getz news is disappointing, yes. What really drives me crazy is this organization's desire to have Betancourt playing almost everyday in whatever role they can have him play. I get it, he's versatile. He's also a defensive liability at SS/3B/2B over any of the guys currently there or in AAA.

Yep, they could have just filled that role with Falu for the major league minimum and been better off.

Yuni's actually pretty good at 2B. I don't want him as a long term starter, but will take him over Falu.
