![]() One of these huge motherfuckers took off from the downtown airport when I still lived at the end of the runway essentially. Looked out my window when my building started rumbling. It was a trip. Loudest fucking thing ever. I swear I felt the heat from the plane through my window, it was nuts.

It kind of reminds me of when we got deverted in a large storm and had to land in Agusta. Coming from LAX to ATL so you can imagine the huge plane I was on. It was hilarious, they had to jump this truck with stairs tall enough to reach because they hadnt used it so long. Everything else was a CRJ or a Lear. The plane was bigger than the terminal.

![]() From what I read the pilots had been flying for an insanely long time (I want to say from Afghanistan?) and the airport they needed to land at was only a few miles away from this one and lined up the same way. It was a MUCH longer runway, but if you fixate on one target you can completely miss the other, especially when you consider all of the checks and lists they'd have to go through to make sure their plane is ready to land on top of that.
Government vehicles showed up almost immediately to unload the plane. Once in light mode it shouldn't have had any trouble taking off. Like Buford said, those things are designed to land in much worse areas. ![]()

![]() Depending on their flight route, C17/C130 pilots practice short take offs all the time on long runs ways, same with short landings. It's part of their quarterly training requirements as well.
Those engines have soooooo much power, it is ridiculous!
